The road to Ca Mau Cape is faster.

In the minds of many, Ca Mau is one of the most remote regions, with Ca Mau Cape being the furthest. However, this southernmost point of the country will become more accessible with the construction of the expressway.

These days, many people in Ca Mau are excitedly talking about the Ca Mau - Ca Mau Expressway project that has just commenced construction. When completed, this project will provide seamless highway connectivity from Cao Bang - Lang Son to the Ca Mau region.

As one of the long-time residents of Dat Mui, Mr. Le Thanh Liem (71 years old) said that in the past, people in Dat Mui had to overcome many obstacles to reach the center of Ca Mau province: because there was no road, they had to travel by ferry, leaving early in the morning and only arriving in the afternoon. Then, in early 2016, the Ho Chi Minh Highway reached Dat Mui, bringing joy to the people here, and the long-held dream of a road for the people of Dat Mui became a reality.

According to locals, since the Ho Chi Minh Highway reached Ca Mau Cape, the appearance of this southernmost region of Vietnam has changed dramatically. The number of tourists visiting Ca Mau Cape has increased significantly, especially during holidays and festivals. Therefore, local specialties such as crabs, shrimp, mud crabs, mudskippers, and snails are also in higher demand and command higher prices.

Many households have taken advantage of available resources to develop community tourism, attracting numerous tourists to visit and experience the land and people in the southernmost region of the country. As a result, the lives of the people in Ca Mau have improved, and the economy has developed.

“During the Independence Day celebrations, the people of Dat Mui were very excited because soon they would have an additional highway. Not only that, but they would also have a port and the longest sea bridge in the country connecting to Hon Khoai Island, a strategic outpost in the southwestern sea. Therefore, the people were even more enthusiastic,” Mr. Liem expressed.

Therefore, households affected by the highway project are willing to hand over their land to the construction unit. Mr. Nguyen Ngoc An (a household affected by the highway project, in Dat Mui commune) shared: "When the local government organized a meeting to inform the people about the compensation policy and the importance of the project, my family and I agreed to hand over more than 9,000 square meters of forest land combined with aquaculture land for the highway. I hope that the compensation policies applied will be most beneficial to the people."

According to Pham Thanh Ngai, Chairman of the People's Committee of Ca Mau province, in recent times, several key projects have been and are being implemented, thereby gradually resolving bottlenecks in transportation infrastructure.

"These projects and works are all strategic in nature, opening up new development opportunities, creating strong momentum, and representing a crucial breakthrough for Ca Mau province to rise in the new era - the era of national progress," Mr. Pham Thanh Ngai emphasized.

The Ca Mau - Dat Mui expressway project is approximately 92km long and has 4 lanes. The road to Hon Khoai Island is about 18km long - this is the longest sea bridge in Vietnam.

The Hon Khoai dual-purpose general cargo port has a capacity of 20 million tons per year and can accommodate ships up to 250,000 DWT. The total investment for the three projects is nearly 100,000 billion VND. According to the plan, these projects will be completed by the end of 2028.
