As one of the long-time residents of Dat Mui, Mr. Sau Liem (Le Thanh Liem, 71 years old) said that in the past, Dat Mui people had to go through many difficulties to reach the center of Ca Mau province: because there was no road, they had to go by boat, from early morning to late afternoon to reach the center of Ca Mau province. Then in early 2016, Ho Chi Minh road to Dat Mui made the people here excited, the dream of a road for generations of Dat Mui people became a reality.

According to local people, since the Ho Chi Minh Trail reached Dat Mui, the appearance of the southernmost land of the country has changed a lot. The number of tourists visiting Ca Mau Cape for sightseeing and sightseeing is increasing, especially during holidays and Tet. Therefore, specialties such as crabs, shrimps, three-sided crabs, mudskippers, snails, etc. are also consumed more and have higher prices.

Many households take advantage of available resources to do community tourism, attracting many tourists to visit and experience the land and people in the southernmost region of the country. Therefore, the lives of the people of Dat Mui have improved and the economy has developed.

“During the Independence Day celebrations, the people of Dat Mui are very excited because soon, the people here will have a new highway. Not only that, but there will also be a port and the longest sea bridge in the country connecting to Hon Khoai Island, a strategic outpost island in the Southwest sea. Therefore, the people are even more excited,” Mr. Sau Liem expressed.

For that reason, households affected by the highway project are willing to hand over the land to the construction unit. Mr. Nguyen Ngoc An (a household affected by the highway project, Dat Mui commune) shared: "When the local government organized a meeting to inform people about the compensation policy and the importance of the project, my family and I agreed to hand over more than 9,000m2 of forest land combined with aquaculture to build the highway. I hope that the compensation policies applied will be most beneficial to the people."

Chairman of Ca Mau Provincial People's Committee Pham Thanh Ngai informed that recently, a number of key projects have been and are being focused on implementation, thereby gradually removing bottlenecks in traffic infrastructure.

“These projects and works are all strategic, opening up new development space, creating strong momentum and being an important breakthrough for Ca Mau province to rise up in the new era - the era of national rise up,” Mr. Pham Thanh Ngai emphasized.

The Ca Mau - Dat Mui Expressway project is about 92km long, with 4 lanes. The road to Hon Khoai Island is about 18km long - this is the longest sea-crossing bridge in Vietnam.

The Hon Khoai dual-use port has a capacity of 20 million tons/year and can receive ships up to 250,000 DWT. The total investment of the three projects is nearly 100,000 billion VND. According to the plan, these projects will be completed by the end of 2028.
