Authorities and local government mobilized personnel and equipment to extinguish the forest fire. The blaze was basically brought under control by 6 PM on May 25th. However, due to the prolonged hot weather, strong winds from Laos, and dense vegetation, the fire smoldered and was difficult to control. When strong winds blew, the flames flared up again.
On the afternoon of May 26th, the forest fire flared up again. More than 100 people from the forest rangers, local military , police, the Dong Hoi and Quang Tri coastal protection forest management board, and other forces, along with equipment, were mobilized to fight the fire. By approximately 4 PM that same day, the fire was brought under control.
This morning (May 27th), several fires continued to break out, and the forest fire response forces and equipment continued to implement measures to control the flames. Currently, the forest fires are basically under control.
According to Mr. Dinh Thanh Quang, Deputy Director in charge of the Dong Hoi and Quang Tri Coastal Protection Forest Management Board, the Board's on-duty forces, the Quang Ninh Forest Ranger Station, and local militia must be present 24/7 in the fire area to continue dealing with small fires and promptly extinguish any re-ignition.
According to initial statistics, the coastal forest fire in Quang Ninh and Ninh Chau communes (Quang Tri province), which lasted for three days (from May 25 to 27), caused damage to approximately 150 hectares of coastal forest and forestry land.
