- Under the full moon of August, the Mid-Autumn Festival atmosphere is filling all communes and wards in the province. For children of Lang Son, the Mid-Autumn Festival is not only an occasion to have fun, enjoy feasts, and carry lanterns, but also a time to share love and immerse themselves in the unique traditional culture of their homeland.
For generations, the Mid-Autumn Festival has been a time of family and community reunion and an occasion for adults to express their love and responsibility for taking care of children - the future buds of the country. The whole province currently has nearly 189,000 children, accounting for about 21.5% of the population; of which more than 28,500 children are from poor and near-poor households and over 1,300 children are orphans. Therefore, activities during the Mid-Autumn Festival are organized with the desire that all children can enjoy the Mid-Autumn Festival.
These days, the atmosphere of the Mid-Autumn Festival has been bustling throughout the province as activities have been and are being held enthusiastically. At the Lang Son Provincial Museum on the morning of October 3, 150 children of the 8/3 Kindergarten (Luong Van Tri Ward) experienced the exhibition booths related to the Mid-Autumn Festival and eagerly made moon cakes with the guidance of a baker.
Be Dieu Anh, class 5A2, 8/3 Kindergarten, was excited: I got to see the booths displaying folk games, lion heads, and national costumes at the museum, and I found it very interesting. I also got to see the grandmothers making moon cakes and imitated them to make 2 cakes. I will bring them home to give to my grandparents, parents, and grandparents.
In addition to organizing experiential activities based on actual conditions, in schools, in addition to their professional duties, teachers are also completing the making of large mid-autumn lanterns, preparing trays of offerings filled with fruits, candies, and especially indispensable moon cakes (baked cakes). Outside of school hours, children are excited to practice singing, dancing, making star lanterns, painting masks, and preparing performances to shine together on the full moon festival night.
Ms. Hoang Thu Thao, Teacher, Team Leader of Gia Mien Primary School, Hoi Hoan Commune, said: This year, the school organized a program with the theme "Lanterns light up dreams" on the evening of August 15 (lunar calendar). As a school in a remote area with limited playing conditions, the students were all eagerly waiting. In order for the program to be fully organized, becoming beautiful memories in the children's childhood memories with full cultural activities, lantern procession, feast, playing folk games..., we mobilized the support of parents and the students themselves to participate in the preparation.
According to the general scenario, the Mid-Autumn Festival program is organized by the units with main activities such as: telling the story of Cuoi and Hang; judging the mid-autumn lantern models, judging the food trays, then the children carry lanterns together, watch the moon and break the food; giving gifts to poor students and those in difficult circumstances. The sparkling lights in the full moon festival will be memorable memories in the hearts of every child, about joy and sharing.
In addition to schools, youth unions, grassroots unions, many agencies, units, wards, communes and residential areas also pay attention to organizing Mid-Autumn Festival programs for children. On this occasion, the Provincial People's Committee and the Provincial Labor Federation organized working delegations to visit, present and celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival with children at schools and units; at the same time, presented gifts to encourage children in difficult circumstances, contributing to bringing joy to them on this meaningful occasion.
Mr. Luong Chi Cong, Vice Chairman of the Provincial Labor Federation (LDB), Head of the Trade Union Working Committee, said: In early September 2025, the Provincial Labor Federation issued a plan to organize activities on the occasion of the Mid-Autumn Festival for children of union members and workers. Accordingly, the grassroots unions will base on actual conditions to choose the form of organizing activities to visit and entertain children on the occasion of the Mid-Autumn Festival in a suitable and practical way. On the side of the Provincial Labor Federation, the unit will visit and coordinate to give gifts and scholarships to nearly 200 children of union members and workers in difficult circumstances at grassroots unions with a total value of nearly 200 million VND. At the same time, the Provincial Labor Federation also attended and gave gifts to 10 grassroots unions that organized Mid-Autumn Festival activities for children.
This year's Mid-Autumn Festival in residential areas, schools, agencies, and units, shimmering lanterns stretch across the streets, where the sound of dragon and lion dance drums blends with the crisp laughter of children. The Mid-Autumn Festival in Lang Son is even more meaningful as it is an occasion for the community to turn to children, fostering traditional values in modern life. From small gifts, simple but loving activities, each moon season sows in the hearts of children warmth, faith, and pride in their homeland's culture.
