Continuing the working program in the southern provinces of Laos, this afternoon, March 18, at the headquarters of the Sekong Provincial Government (Laos), a conference was held between the high-ranking delegations of the two provinces of Quang Tri and Sekong to agree on a number of cooperation contents between the two localities.

At the conference, the Provincial Party Secretary and Governor of Sekong Province, Lec-lay Sy-vy-lay, provided an overview of the socio-economic development and infrastructure investment of the locality, especially in the field of coal mining and production. At the same time, he highly appreciated the visit and working session of the high-ranking delegation of Quang Tri Province this time. This is an important foundation for the two provinces to continue to realize the contents of friendly cooperation in an increasingly deeper and more effective manner.
Regarding the contents signed in the memorandum of cooperation between the two localities before, Sekong province has been and will make efforts to facilitate enterprises to exploit, transport and export coal from Sekong through Salavan and Savannakhet provinces to Vietnam through the La Lay - La Lay and Densavan - Lao Bao international border gates. The Party Committee and government of Sekong province are ready to welcome and will create the most favorable conditions for enterprises in Vietnam in general and Quang Tri in particular to invest in the locality.

Speaking at the conference, Provincial Party Secretary Le Quang Tung congratulated the great achievements that the Party Committee, government and people of Sekong province have achieved in recent times. At the same time, he highly appreciated the initial results achieved in the cooperative relationship and believed in the continuous development of this special friendship between the two provinces of Quang Tri - Sekong in the coming time.
Providing basic information on the socio-economic development situation and progress of key projects in Quang Tri, Provincial Party Secretary Le Quang Tung said that the province is focusing on directing relevant departments, branches and localities to study and remove difficulties to create favorable conditions for enterprises exporting coal from Laos to Vietnam through La Lay International Border Gate.
In particular, implementing the cooperation commitments with Sekong province is considered a top priority task.
Therefore, with many opportunities to enhance comprehensive cooperation, from politics, foreign affairs, to economic, cultural cooperation and people-to-people exchange, in the coming time, we hope that the Party Committee and the government of Sekong province will focus on directing relevant agencies, departments, branches and localities to effectively implement the contents of the minutes of the high-level talks between the two provinces signed in August 2023 as well as the working contents of high-level delegations; pay attention to promoting information exchange between the two localities, especially difficulties and problems in the process of implementing projects for timely coordination and resolution.

Based on the results of the discussion at the working session, the two sides agreed to sign 5 contents in the memorandum of understanding.
Notably, the research on upgrading and expanding the route from Kaleum district (Sekong province) to Ta Oi district (Salavan province) aims to connect with the traffic route through Nong district to Ban Dong (Savannakhet province) to Lao Bao International Border Gate, creating favorable conditions for trade and travel of localities, especially the transportation of coal.
Coordinate research on solutions to promote cooperation in trade - investment, logistics services, and tourism through the corridor parallel to the East - West Economic Corridor (Para EWEC), strongly connecting the provinces of Sekong - Champasak - Salavan - Quang Tri and the key economic region of the Central region through La Lay International Border Gate.
