Gia Loc Ward Women's Union presents trash cans to members
A clear shift from awareness to action
In recent years, socio -economic development has led to an increase in solid waste generation, especially urban solid waste with complex composition, which has been putting pressure on the environment and making it difficult to manage solid waste in the province. The volume of urban solid waste is mainly generated in large cities.
Localities in the province have stepped up the collection and treatment of waste. The rate of urban solid waste collected and treated in the province has increased gradually over the years, from 85% (in 2012) to now reaching 100%.
Mr. Trinh Hoang Minh - Director of Phuoc Minh Agricultural Trade and Service Cooperative, a unit operating in the field of waste collection, said that the Cooperative was established in 2019 and only officially started collecting waste in the area in the second quarter of 2020. Initially, the number of people registering for collection was limited, mainly self-processing by burning and burying. However, through propaganda and mobilization work of all levels and sectors, up to now, 575 households have registered for collection. The Cooperative collects 3 times/week and transports it to the waste treatment company.
In residential areas, local authorities have stepped up propaganda and mobilized people to participate in the movements of “Say no to plastic waste” and “Sorting waste at source”. Many self-management models of environmental sanitation have been effectively maintained, such as Green - Clean - Beautiful Roads, Zero Waste Residential Areas or Green Sundays.
In recent times, the Women's Union at all levels in the province has implemented many practical activities to raise awareness and change the behavior of members and people in environmental protection, gradually forming a green and environmentally friendly lifestyle.
Garbage collection in the province
With the motto "Each woman - One action for the environment", the Women's Union at all levels has promoted propaganda and mobilized members to actively participate in the campaign "Building a family of 5 no's, 3 clean's, contributing to fostering Vietnamese family values" by changing consumer habits, limiting the use of nylon bags, disposable plastic products, sorting waste at source; donating 730 trash cans and baskets, 280 handbags to Women's Union members, organizing more than 30 campaigns to clear bushes, trim trees to ensure traffic safety and plant more than 3,250 new trees, flowers,... along the roads, with a total implementation cost of about 4.5 billion VND.
According to Ms. Le Thi Thoai, a member of the Women's Union of Ninh Thanh Ward, the implementation of the criteria of "5 no, 3 clean" has brought positive results in the New Rural Development Program. In front of each house there is a self-managed trash can, daily household waste is collected by people, put into a covered bin, and then the waste collection unit takes it away for treatment. Thanks to that, the roads are increasingly clean and beautiful, the living space of people is improved in the direction of green - clean - beautiful.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa, a resident of Duong Minh Chau commune, said: “In the past, people often burned or buried garbage in their gardens. Now the commune has a regular garbage collection vehicle, every house has its own trash bin, it is much cleaner. Children are also taught how to classify garbage at school.”
Recently, the Provincial People's Committee issued Official Dispatch No. 3831/UBND-KTTC on the implementation of a number of urgent tasks to drastically prevent and resolve environmental pollution. Accordingly, the Provincial People's Committee requested the Provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, relevant departments, branches and People's Committees of communes and wards to urgently focus on reviewing and implementing regulations on environmental protection to increase enforcement effectiveness and be consistent with the arrangement of the apparatus in the political system and the 2-level local government model; strengthen the direction, administration and implementation of strategies, projects, tasks on environmental protection under the responsibility and scope of management to ensure the "6 clear" principle, prioritize investment and mobilize social resources to solve key and urgent environmental issues; inspect, check and strictly handle violations of organizations and individuals under their authority; propagate policies and laws on environmental protection in performing tasks in the management field; Promote the application of science, technology, innovation, digital transformation and mobilization of private resources and public-private cooperation in environmental protection.
The Provincial People's Committee also requested public service units to have solutions to regularly and thoroughly collect and transport solid waste in public areas.
Turn waste into resources
Waste is recycled into fertilizer by Hue Phuong VN Green Environment Company Limited.
To solve the problem of environmental pollution, the province has focused on investing and putting into operation many solid waste treatment facilities with different capacities, ensuring the treatment of about 1,150 tons of waste per day. Tay Ninh is gradually shifting to a circular economy, considering waste as a resource that can be recycled and reused. Many businesses have invested in waste classification lines, plastic recycling, and organic fertilizer production from household waste, contributing to saving resources and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
For example, Hue Phuong VN Green Environment Company Limited has a capacity to process 300 tons of waste/day, modern and safe equipment to process and recycle waste, such as: hazardous waste incinerator system with a capacity of 1 ton/hour; safe landfill system with a capacity of 40 tons/day; drum washing system with a capacity of 7.5 tons/day; organic fertilizer production with a capacity of 140 tons/day, etc.
Waste is recycled into unburnt bricks by Hue Phuong VN Green Environment Company Limited.
Mr. Le Dinh Tuan - Head of Technical Department of Hue Phuong VN Green Environment Company Limited, said: for domestic waste and industrial waste, the company has its own treatment process. Domestic waste will be classified into inorganic waste and organic waste. For organic waste, the company will use it as raw material to compost organic humus, then package it into organic fertilizer. For inorganic materials, after going through the sorting line, the nylon wrap will be transferred to the recycling unit; the waste is burned at the domestic waste incinerator. Industrial waste is collected separately for classification, reusable scrap will be transferred to the recycling unit. Industrial waste is burned at the industrial waste incinerator, the ash and slag will be solidified by the company to make block bricks, creating unburnt bricks.
Nowadays, the application of science and technology in waste treatment is very important to solve environmental problems. Advanced technologies such as energy recovery incineration, plasma gasification and pneumatic waste transport systems can replace traditional treatment methods such as landfills, helping to reduce pollution and utilize resources from waste. Modern, high-tech waste treatment models not only reduce the amount of waste but also contribute to creating a green - clean - beautiful urban landscape./.
