According to the report of the Ministry of Education and Training , in the QS World University Rankings 2025 (data published on November 6, 2024), Vietnam has 6 universities on the list, an increase of one school compared to 2024. Meanwhile, in the Asian University Rankings 2025, Vietnam has 17 training institutions in the top, an increase of 2 schools compared to 2024.

Vietnam also ranked 15th out of 25 Asian countries ranked by QS. Vietnam's university rankings on the QS Asian University Rankings are as follows:

For the QS WUR2025 subject rankings, 9 Vietnamese universities are ranked in 25 subjects, of which 3 universities have highly ranked subjects. Specifically, Petroleum Engineering of Ho Chi Minh City National University; Hospitality and Leisure of Duy Tan University and Performing Arts of Van Lang University are subjects ranked in the top 100 in the world .

In the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2025, Vietnam achieved its most outstanding achievement ever with 9 ranked higher education institutions.

Notably, although it was the first time participating, Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics ranked highest, in the 501-600 group. Following were Duy Tan University and Ton Duc Thang University, both ranked in the 601-800 group. This was also the first time Hanoi Medical University and Ho Chi Minh City Open University were ranked, in the 801-1000 and 1201-1500 groups, respectively.

Of the nine schools, six retained their rankings from last year, while the remaining three were "new faces".

According to the Ministry of Education and Training, through participation in prestigious rankings, Vietnamese higher education has clearly appeared on the world map. However, besides positive results, the ranking of Vietnamese higher education still has some limitations.

The number of internationally ranked institutions is still small compared to the overall system, the ranking positions are mainly at the average and low levels, and there are not many schools in the leading groups in the region and the world. The quality of scientific research, international publications and citations has improved but is not uniform among schools, depending heavily on a few strong units.

International cooperation, technology transfer and business engagement activities in many schools are still limited, affecting the overall assessment index. In addition, university governance, quality assurance and investment resources have not really met the strict requirements of the rankings, limiting the international competitiveness of Vietnamese universities.
