Earning over 100 billion at Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Festival, businesses say 'not yet met expectations'

Total revenue of Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Festival reached more than 100 billion VND, but 'did not meet the expectations' of businesses because it was held right on the occasion of Hung Kings' death anniversary.

After 4 days taking place at September 23 Park (District 1, Ho Chi Minh City), on the evening of April 6, Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Festival 2025 ended with a revenue of more than 100 billion VND, about 40 billion VND less than in 2024.

According to the Organizing Committee, the Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Festival 2025 took place as planned. However, a number of cultural and artistic activities had to be temporarily suspended according to Government regulations during the National Mourning period.

Mr. Le Truong Hien Hoa, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism, said that revenue from selling tours, services and tourism products at the festival is estimated to reach more than 100 billion VND, according to statistics from participating businesses.

However, some travel businesses commented that this year's festival's sales did not meet expectations because the time of organization coincided with the Hung Kings' death anniversary holiday.

"Usually every year, the number of customers buying tours will explode on the weekend. This year, the Hung Kings' death anniversary falls on Monday, many people went on vacation or returned to their hometowns on Saturday, so revenue did not reach expectations," a representative of a unit shared.

Another travel agency said that promotion is still limited, many people do not know about the program so the full potential of visitors to the festival cannot be exploited.

Ho Chi Minh City inner city tour on April 30th is popular

A representative of Vietravel Company said that tourism products related to the 50th anniversary of the country's reunification and Ho Chi Minh City's inner city are the focus of customers' interest. Half-day and one-day inner city tours have seen a spike in bookings since the first week of April.

Some of the outstanding programs include city tours - dinner on the Saigon River; a day tour of the inner city, a cruise to Thieng Lieng Island, and free walking tours that are also inquired about and booked by tourists.

Saigontourist Travel reported that revenue from the Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Festival in 2025 reached VND8.94 billion, an increase of nearly VND2 billion compared to last year. Customers are interested in domestic tours such as: Northern, Central, Phu Quoc, Nha Trang, Da Lat tours... Foreign tours that are booked by many customers include: European tours, Japan, Hong Kong, Zhangjiajie, Bali, Taiwan...

Ben Thanh Tourist, a company specializing in organizing free walking tours to visit Ho Chi Minh City, predicts that during the 5-day holiday from April 30 to May 1, it can serve about 100 participants per day, an increase of nearly 500% compared to normal days.

In particular, this company recorded customers who spent a lot of money on tours to distant markets with high values, including tours worth 104.99 million VND. Many customers bought in large groups, with foreign tours having customers buying in groups of 12 people, and domestic tours having customers buying in groups of 20 people.
