Following the "golden" achievement of Vinh Trai Secondary School ( Lang Son City), Nguyen Truc Linh, a student in class 9A4 (academic year 2024-2025), has excelled and become the top scorer with a total score of 46.5 in the entrance exam to grade 10 of Chu Van An Specialized High School for the academic year 2025-2026.
According to the admission results, Truc Linh has a total score of 46.5, including: Mathematics 9.5; Literature 8; English 10; and the specialized subject (English) 9.5. With this score, Truc Linh is not only the top student in the specialized English subject but also the top student in the 10th grade specialized class for the 2025-2026 school year at Chu Van An High School for the Gifted.
Sharing her love for English with us, Truc Linh said: "Since elementary school, my parents have given me opportunities to learn English, and I quickly became passionate about it. English is a global language, a useful tool for me in communicating and learning valuable knowledge from other cultures around the world ."
She also shared that learning about successful valedictorians through the media gave her strong motivation. From then on, she harbored the dream and determination to study hard to achieve the same success as her predecessors. She always reminded herself that proving her worth in life requires seriousness, discipline, and diligent study and training. Therefore, when she achieved the results she hoped for, Truc Linh felt very emotional and vowed to try even harder in the future.
To achieve high scores in the recent high school entrance exam, Truc Linh developed an effective and scientific study schedule. She dedicated time to studying and reviewing all three subjects—Mathematics, Literature, and English—regularly every day. During her studies, Truc Linh proactively identified her weaknesses in each subject and did not hesitate to independently research learning materials, share them with friends, and seek help from teachers to improve.
For English, I emphasize the importance of building a solid vocabulary and grammar foundation. To achieve this, I usually record vocabulary and grammar in a separate notebook, categorized by topic. Each word is clearly marked with its pronunciation, synonyms, antonyms, and accompanied by a sample sentence with specific context to help me understand and remember it better. Truc Linh avoids cramming too much vocabulary at once; instead, she breaks it down into smaller groups of new words to learn and reviews daily. Regarding grammar, she believes that actively doing many application exercises helps her master structures more effectively than just memorizing them. This is a solid foundation that helps her develop all four skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
In addition, Truc Linh often studies in groups with friends, chatting in English to make learning more interesting and effective. Regular communication in English not only brings a sense of comfort and confidence but is also an effective method to improve her listening and speaking reflexes, as well as her pronunciation. In particular, working through difficult exercises with her friends, correcting and discussing mistakes not only helps Truc Linh but also helps her friends remember the knowledge much better.
When taking exams, Truc Linh always quickly scans the entire exam structure to understand the number of questions and allocate her time appropriately for each section. She prioritizes answering easy questions or types of questions she is confident in first to create a relaxed mindset. For more difficult questions or those requiring more time to think, she marks them and comes back to them after completing the rest of the sections.
Truc Linh emphasized that good health is a crucial factor in her academic success. Therefore, she often wakes up early to go for walks with her mother to improve her health and relax her mind. Breathing fresh air helps her feel refreshed for the new day and study more effectively. At school, she also actively participates in cultural, artistic, and sports activities.
Ms. Pham Thuy Trang, a teacher who coaches the English team at Vinh Trai Secondary School, commented on her student: "Throughout the training process with the school's English team, Truc Linh always focused intensely, diligently reviewed her knowledge, proactively studied on her own, and challenged herself with various levels of gifted student exams. In particular, Truc Linh consistently performed well on the assigned English essay writing assignments – a crucial skill that carries high marks in exams."
Besides achieving the title of outstanding student for 9 consecutive years, Truc Linh has also won many awards in student competitions at various levels since she was in 6th grade, most notably the Second Prize in the 9th grade city-level student competition in the 2024-2025 school year, the Second Prize in the 9th grade provincial-level student competition in the 2024-2025 school year...
Becoming the top student in English and the top student at a specialized high school is a significant pressure for Truc Linh. However, we believe that with her inherent diligence, Truc Linh will transform this pressure into motivation, helping her to become more confident and continue to strive to improve her knowledge in her new learning environment. Truc Linh also expressed her desire to maintain her academic performance to achieve many high accomplishments, contributing to the overall achievements of Chu Van An Specialized High School. At the same time, she hopes to participate in many extracurricular activities, clubs, and gifted student teams to enhance her knowledge and soft skills.
