Vietnam is an agricultural country, rice production and export is the livelihood pillar for more than 70% of the rural population. However, under the impact of climate change, drought, rising sea levels and saltwater intrusion are becoming increasingly complex, making production conditions in Vietnam, especially in the Mekong Delta (MD), increasingly difficult. Urgent actions by all sectors of society, from individuals, businesses, organizations to the government, need to be urgently implemented to transform rice production towards low carbon and climate change adaptation.
With funding from the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), the Netherlands Development Organization SNV is cooperating with central and local government partners to implement the project "Transformation of Rice Value Chains to Respond to Climate Change and Sustainable Development in the Mekong Delta" (TRVC) in the three provinces with the largest rice production areas in the Mekong Delta, An Giang, Dong Thap and Kien Giang, in the period from 2023 to 2027.
Using a results-based award mechanism, the TRVC Project encourages and engages enterprises (Es) that are producing and trading in the Rice Value Chain (CGTLG) to promote the expansion of the application of advanced rice production technologies on a large scale to bring higher economic efficiency to smallholder farmers and all actors in the chain, improve rice quality and inclusive social values, while achieving the goal of reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and protecting the environment.
SNV encourages the above-mentioned units to submit applications and participate in the project for the opportunity to win attractive cash and non-cash prizes, and be recognized as a pioneer enterprise, with the Enterprise's products or technologies tested and certified to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by an International Testing Unit; the great values of the Enterprise's brand, the Rice product line produced with responsibility to the Environment as well as the Enterprise's GHG reduction implementation according to Decree 06/2022/ND-CP of the Prime Minister ; laying a solid foundation for the Enterprise to be ready to participate in the carbon credit exchange market according to the roadmap to 2027 in Vietnam.
TRVC project wishes to accompany businesses to produce and do business with higher economic efficiency, be responsible to the environment, and move towards a more sustainable agriculture.
