Story of the caretaker of Mother Nguyen Thi Bay Church

"RED QUEEN" NGUYEN THI BAY

According to historical sources, comrade Nguyen Thi Bay was born in 1909 in Vinh Huu village, Hoa Dong Trung commune, Go Cong district (formerly Vinh Huu commune, Go Cong Tay district, Tien Giang province), now Dong Thap province.

In 1932, he was admitted to the Indochinese Communist Party. In 1936, he was assigned to be the Secretary of the Can Giuoc District Party Committee and a member of the Cho Lon Provincial Party Committee. Under his leadership, the struggle movement of the Can Giuoc people developed and spread, making the enemy extremely terrified.

On November 23, 1940, under the direct command of comrade Nguyen Thi Bay, party members at the grassroots level gathered the masses to launch the Southern Uprising. This was considered the outstanding revolutionary movement of Can Giuoc homeland at that time.

The resourcefulness and heroic spirit of comrade Nguyen Thi Bay not only spread among the people of Can Giuoc - Cho Lon, but also when she fell into the hands of the enemy, they had to admire and call comrade Nguyen Thi Bay "The Red Queen".

On May 26, 1941 (May 22nd of the lunar calendar), at Can Giuoc football field, the French colonialists held a ceremony to execute comrade Nguyen Thi Bay and other revolutionary soldiers. Before being executed, comrade Nguyen Thi Bay called on "People to continue to fight, to drive out the French imperialists so that the farmers can have land. This uprising failed, the next one will succeed."

The steadfast example and heroic sacrifice of comrade Nguyen Thi Bay is a shining expression of our nation's patriotism and indomitable will to refuse to be slaves, further enhancing the tradition of "Heroic, indomitable, loyal, and courageous" of Vietnamese women.

In recognition of the great contributions of comrade Nguyen Thi Bay, the President posthumously awarded her the title of Heroic Hero of the People's Armed Forces (in 2010) and Heroic Mother of Vietnam (in 2015). At the same time, in order to educate the tradition of patriotism and national pride for future generations, Mother Nguyen Thi Bay's name was given to schools, roads, bridges, and parks in the former Long An and Tien Giang provinces (now Tay Ninh and Dong Thap provinces).

In memory of the great merit and heroic sacrifice of Mother Nguyen Thi Bay in the struggles for national liberation, in 2019, the People's Committee of Go Cong Tay district, Tien Giang province previously allocated 450 million VND to build the Church of Mother of Vietnamese Heroes - Heroic People's Armed Forces - Martyr Nguyen Thi Bay in Hung Hoa hamlet, Vinh Huu commune, Go Cong Tay district, Tien Giang province (now Dong Thap province).

Every year, the District Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Go Cong Tay District solemnly organize the death anniversary of Mother Nguyen Thi Bay, demonstrating the cultural tradition of "When drinking water, remember its source" of the Vietnamese people. This place also becomes a "Red Address" to educate the young generation to respect and remember the merits of heroic martyrs, thereby continuing to promote the tradition of patriotism, contributing to the cause of building the homeland and protecting the Fatherland.
SIMPLE BUT NOBLE EXAMPLE

Coming to Hung Hoa hamlet, Vinh Huu commune, asking about Ms. Huynh Thi Chin (56 years old), the person who takes care of the Mother of Vietnam Heroic Mother - Heroic People's Armed Forces - Martyr Nguyen Thi Bay every day, is known to almost everyone. According to local people, Ms. Chin, although not a relative, spends time every day going to Mother Nguyen Thi Bay's Church to clean, sanitize and respectfully burn incense.

At the same time, Ms. Chin also plants flowers and takes care of and maintains the nearly 1 km long flower and tree path around Mother Nguyen Thi Bay Church. Although busy with raising dairy cows and taking care of her family's more than 1,000 m2 mai nu garden, every day, regardless of rain or shine, after finishing her housework, Ms. Chin takes the time to take care of the flowers and trees in the area of Mother Nguyen Thi Bay Church.

Sharing with us, Ms. Chin expressed that she was very happy and proud to live near Mother Nguyen Thi Bay's Church. To commemorate Mother Nguyen Thi Bay's selfless service to the country and her whole life of sacrifice for the cause of national liberation, she volunteered to take care of the incense and flower path in the area of Mother Nguyen Thi Bay's Church every day.

Every year, on the anniversary of Mother Nguyen Thi Bay's death, groups of visitors from all over the country come here to visit and admire the peaceful beauty of the Church area. This is a respectful tribute from her as well as the people of Vinh Huu commune to the sacrifice of Mother Nguyen Thi Bay.

Talking about Ms. Huynh Thi Chin, comrade Nguyen Thanh Trieu, Head of the Department of Culture and Society of Vinh Huu commune, commented that Ms. Chin is one of the typical and advanced examples of the commune with many positive contributions to the locality. Ms. Chin, together with local people, planted, cared for and maintained the flower road. She also used her own money to buy flowers, ornamental plants, and fertilizers to care for and maintain the beautiful flower road; at the same time, she took care of the Mother Church of the Heroic Mother of Vietnam - Heroic People's Armed Forces - Martyr Nguyen Thi Bay. Ms. Chin's practical work contributed to educating the younger generation about the morality of "When drinking water, remember its source", raising people's awareness to join hands with the government to implement the program of building advanced new rural areas and model new rural areas of the commune.

The meaningful work of Ms. Huynh Thi Chin in recent years has been recognized by the People's Committee of Vinh Huu commune and recently she was commended and awarded as a typical individual in the patriotic emulation movement of Vinh Huu commune in the period 2020 - 2025.

The simple yet noble example of Ms. Chin has inspired each person to continue to contribute practical work, so that our whole country can be a "beautiful flower forest" of good people and good deeds as wished by beloved President Ho Chi Minh.
