Dong Thap: Launching the 6th Green Sunday and responding to the Campaign to Make the World Cleaner by 2025

On the morning of September 21, at the Cultural Center of Go Cong Dong Commune, the Standing Committee of Dong Thap Provincial Youth Union organized the 6th Green Sunday Launching Ceremony and responded to the Campaign to Make the World Cleaner by 2025. Attending the program were comrade Nguyen Thanh Luan, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union, Chairman of the Provincial Youth Union Council; representatives of the Department of Agriculture and Environment; representatives of the Party Committee and local government of Go Cong Dong Commune; and more than 150 cadres, union members, youth, students and a large number of local people.

Green Sunday has become an annual activity, affirming a deep mark in the youth volunteer movement of the province. The program does not stop at planting trees, collecting waste, improving the landscape, but also spreads the humane message: "Every small action - a big meaning", for a green Vietnam, for a new sustainable Dong Thap .

At the ceremony, the Provincial Youth Union Standing Committee and the Provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment presented 5,000 trees to implement the "Green Road" project for 3 units: Go Cong Dong commune, Gia Thuan commune and Tan Dong commune.

The 6th Green Sunday was simultaneously deployed in 102/102 communes and wards across the province, with the participation of affiliated youth union units. On the peak day, the whole province mobilized volunteer teams to protect the environment, carrying out 275 projects and tasks, attracting 6,235 union members and youth to participate. Thereby: Planting 18,494 new trees; building and renovating 20 tree nurseries; deploying 30 models of plastic waste prevention and control and 36 models of waste classification at source; implementing the model "Green Aspiration - For a clean river", cleaning 26 km of river, handling black spots on canals and streams; eliminating 45 environmental pollution points; deploying 23 green workspaces at agencies and schools; implementing the model "Cleaning the sea", "Exchanging plastic waste for gifts"...

Comrade Nguyen Thanh Luan, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union (right), participated in planting trees and launching the implementation of the "Green Road" model on the road of Kenh Ngang hamlet, Go Cong Dong commune.

In addition, grassroots unions in the province also implemented many practical projects, contributing to improving and upgrading rural infrastructure such as: Repairing 12.9 km and building 13.5 km of new rural roads, with a cost of more than 420 million VND; maintaining and renovating 92 km of "Bright - green - clean - beautiful - civilized, safe roads", worth nearly 290 million VND; starting and inaugurating 3 rural traffic bridges, with a cost of more than 1.4 billion VND, along with many working days of union members and youth.

On the peak day, the grassroots union also started and inaugurated 3 Charity houses, Red Scarf houses and 1 project "Building friendly toilets with children" with a budget of 180 million VND; organized children's activities and presented more than 821 gifts to children in difficult circumstances, lonely elderly people, poor and near-poor households, with a budget of more than 336.1 million VND. The total budget for the projects and tasks reached more than 2.44 billion VND.

The 6th Green Sunday in 2025 is an opportunity for Dong Thap youth to promote the spirit of volunteering in environmental protection, responding to climate change, and building a civilized lifestyle in urban and new rural areas. The activity also contributes to spreading awareness of environmental protection, enhancing the role of union members and youth in serving the community, and at the same time moving towards digital transformation in people's lives.
