Dong Thap Youth: Contribute to building a green - clean - beautiful homeland

The movement “Volunteer Saturday, Green Sunday” is being widely implemented by the Youth Union at all levels in the province, creating a strong impression in the community. From practical activities such as: Planting trees, collecting waste, making flower roads, supporting administrative procedures... the province's youth have been affirming their pioneering role, contributing to building a bright - green - clean - beautiful living environment, joining hands with the locality to build advanced new rural areas, model new rural areas and civilized urban areas.

SPREAD FROM THE WORKS

Since the beginning of the year, the Standing Committee of Dong Thap Provincial Youth Union has directed the organization of 5 "Green Sunday" campaigns simultaneously throughout the province, attracting more than 35,500 union members and young people to participate. Accordingly, the Youth Volunteer Teams have mobilized to clean up the environment, clear sewers, handle pollution black spots; plant new trees and flowers along the roadsides, build "Mural Road", "Flowering Electric Poles", "Youth Flower Garden", "Bright - Green - Clean - Beautiful - Safe" Flower Route, along with the campaign "Green Aspiration - For a Clean River".

At the same time, the union members implemented the model of "Million Tree Nursery", "Youth Nursery", creating seed sources for new planting and digital application of green trees. In addition, the movement is also associated with many practical activities such as: Building and repairing bridges and rural roads, lighting up rural roads; building "Charity Houses", "Red Scarf Houses"; opening playgrounds for children; distributing environmentally friendly bags; removing and deleting illegal advertisements... contributing to building new rural landscapes and civilized urban areas. The results achieved were very impressive: 1,470 youth works and projects were carried out; over 221,000 new trees were planted; 540 "Green Tree Nurseries" were maintained and newly built, providing hundreds of thousands of seedlings for new planting, greening village roads and alleys.

In particular, the Youth Volunteer Teams also renewed and repaired more than 81.9 km of rural roads, built 6 bridges, carried out more than 71 km of "Lighting up the countryside" and "Bright - green - clean - beautiful - civilized, safe routes" projects, added more than 68.3 km of new flower roads and consolidated nearly 70 km of self-managed youth roads and channels.

Not only infrastructure projects, the movement is also associated with social security. During the campaigns, the province's youth presented more than 2,595 gifts to children, policy families, poor and near-poor households; inaugurated and started construction of 10 "Humanity Houses" and "Red Scarf Houses", creating solid housing for those in difficult circumstances. The total value of resources mobilized from the activities is estimated at over 9.75 billion VND.

According to comrade Le Hoang Quyet, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union, through 5 implementation phases, the "Green Sunday" activities have created a clear impression of the cooperation of Dong Thap youth in protecting the environment, responding to climate change, participating in building new rural areas, civilized urban areas and spreading digital transformation in the community.

New models such as: "Exchanging plastic waste for gifts", "Digital transformation route", "Youth flower route", "Digital education for the masses", "Green aspiration - For a clean river", "Trusted youth address", "Green welfare", "People's market, anti-plastic waste residential area" ... have been effective, demonstrating creativity, practicality, meeting the needs of the people.
YOUTH BUILDING THE HOMELAND

At the grassroots level, the movement becomes more vibrant with concrete activities closely related to people's lives. In Vinh Huu commune, volunteer activities are maintained regularly every week, creating clear changes.

Comrade Nguyen Thanh Truc, Secretary of Vinh Huu Commune Youth Union shared: “The movements “Volunteer Saturday” and “Green Sunday” always receive the active participation of union members and youths along with the consensus of the people. Activities of cleaning the environment, collecting waste, clearing bushes, planting trees, removing illegal advertisements, supporting administrative procedures for people… are regularly deployed, creating a clear change in recent times”.

In fact, the environmental landscape in Vinh Huu is increasingly clean and beautiful; awareness of maintaining public hygiene in the community has been significantly improved. People are gradually getting used to sorting waste at source, limiting plastic waste.

Many roads that were previously shabby have been covered with green trees and ornamental flowers, becoming brilliant "Youth Flower Roads", contributing to the locality's construction of advanced new rural areas and model new rural areas.

The “Green Sunday” movement in My Thien commune also made its mark with many creative activities closely related to people’s lives. Accordingly, My Thien Commune Union launched a campaign to clear the self-managed youth routes, plant flowers along inter-hamlet roads, collect and classify waste, remove illegal advertisements, and clean up around the memorial stele areas.

Particularly effective is the model of “Exchanging plastic waste for household items”, along with the activity of distributing biodegradable bags to traders at the traditional market. These practical activities not only create a lively atmosphere among union members, but also contribute to raising awareness of environmental protection in the community.

Comrade Nguyen Thi Diem Mi, Secretary of My Thien Commune Youth Union, said: "The movement has been maintained effectively, associated with specific tasks, contributing to creating a healthy living environment, while encouraging people to limit the use of plastic bags and disposable plastic products, classify waste at source and use environmentally friendly products."

Thanks to that, the movement not only brings a new look to My Thien countryside but also creates changes in people's awareness and actions in protecting the environment. Nguyen Phuoc Tai, Secretary of the Youth Union of Hamlet 3, My Thien Commune, said that the "Green Sunday" campaign is a very meaningful activity, promoting the volunteer role of young people. Besides, it helps people to be more aware of keeping the environment clean.

Since the beginning of 2025, the Youth Union chapters at all levels in the province have organized 36 "Voluntary Saturdays to support online public services", attracting more than 5,460 union members and young people to participate in guiding people to create and activate electronic identification accounts, submit online applications, pay financial obligations, look up administrative procedure results and use digital signatures.

The Provincial Youth Union Standing Committee also deployed specialized teams to support the two-level government, disseminate laws, and help people access public services right at the grassroots level. Many creative and humane models were implemented such as: "Pink Holiday - Wholeheartedly for the Elderly" (supporting the completion of social security records at home), "Green Welfare" (helping the elderly declare social pension procedures) or "Red Flamboyant Journey - Small Footprints to Every Lane, Every House" (directly returning administrative procedure results to households in difficult circumstances)...

With the direction of the Provincial Youth Union Standing Committee, the attention of the Party Committee, the government and the enthusiasm of the union members, the movement has been deployed simultaneously, creating a strong ripple effect. Reality shows that the youth's strength has been clearly promoted, demonstrating a proactive and responsible spirit, bringing many practical works and tasks to the community.

The movements of “Volunteer Saturday” and “Green Sunday” are not only days of environmental sanitation, but also arouse the spirit of youth volunteerism, spreading to the community the sense of responsibility for environmental protection, building a bright - green - clean - beautiful landscape.

Practice in many localities shows that the government creates favorable conditions, union members promote creativity, the people respond with sympathy, all contribute to create collective strength, turning the movement into a beautiful community culture.

These activities have been affirming the spirit of volunteerism and responsibility of the young generation, contributing to making Dong Thap increasingly green - clean - beautiful and civilized.
