Sustainable income from OCOP products

Implementing the OCOP program, Son La province has so far developed 204 products. These products bring economic benefits and sustainable income to the people. At the same time, they contribute to shifting agricultural production towards commodities, becoming an important internal resource in the new rural construction movement.

OCOP products of Aratay Coffee Cooperative are recognized as typical rural agricultural products in 2024.

Mr. Duong Gia Dinh, Deputy Head of the Provincial New Rural Area Coordination Office, said: Based on research and experience in implementing the OCOP program in localities nationwide, our province has implemented and closely followed the criteria of " Economy and production organization" in the National Criteria for New Rural Area Construction. Developing production, creating jobs for rural workers, and shifting the local economic structure.

After more than 6 years of implementation, the whole province has 204 OCOP products, including 1 5-star product, 62 4-star products, and 141 3-star products. From 2023, the assessment and recognition of OCOP products will be carried out at the commune level, instead of the previous district level; 3-star products will be recognized by the district level instead of the province, helping to save time and costs, creating conditions for localities to proactively select typical products.

Ruby plum products of Noong Pieu Indigenous Agricultural Cooperative, Phieng Khoai Commune, Yen Chau District, have applied VietGAP and organic production processes since 2019. Up to now, the products have received high quality evaluations from partners and customers. The Cooperative has built OCOP products associated with product branding.

Ms. Nguyen Phuong Thanh, Deputy Director of the Cooperative, said: In 2023, plum products will be recognized as achieving 4-star OCOP. Currently, the Cooperative has 30.5 hectares of plums with a growing area code, of which 12 hectares are being produced in an organic direction. OCOP product certification is not only a title for product quality, but also a passport to bring the Cooperative's products to major supermarkets in the country.

Lang Cheu Agricultural Service Cooperative, Lang Cheu Commune, Bac Yen District, identifies OCOP as a program to develop local specialty products from local materials and labor. Taking advantage of the presence of cassava raw material areas, the Cooperative chose to develop cassava vermicelli. Mr. Song A Mang, Director of the Cooperative, said: By participating in OCOP, the Cooperative is supported to improve packaging and promote products through trade fairs and trade weeks. After more than 2 years of meeting OCOP standards, the 2 fresh and dried cassava vermicelli products have expanded their production scale, increased consumption, and increased product value by about 20%. In 2024, the Cooperative's revenue will reach over 800 million VND.

To promote OCOP products, the province has supported the construction of 12 OCOP product introduction points in districts, towns and cities and put OCOP products on e-commerce platforms. The Provincial New Rural Area Coordination Office coordinated with the New Rural Area Construction Boards of Quang Ninh and Da Nang provinces to sign a memorandum of understanding, establish a cooperative relationship, and agree to promote strengths, in order to propagate, promote and connect the consumption of OCOP products to the market...

The vermicelli product of Lang Cheu Agricultural Service Cooperative is recognized as a 3-star OCOP product.

At the same time, promote and introduce products outside the province; support businesses and cooperatives to participate in fairs and trade weeks in provinces and cities, increasing opportunities for direct transactions with businesses. Thereby, many products are supported, promoting joint ventures and partnerships with businesses inside and outside the province to sign consumption contracts.

Ms. Cam Thi Mon, Director of Aratay Coffee Cooperative, Chieng Chung Commune, Mai Son District, shared: In 2022, the Cooperative will bring the Ara Tay Coffee brand to participate in the OCOP program, bringing coffee products to e-commerce platforms, such as Portmart, Shopee... to promote the Cooperative's products with clean, high-quality criteria, meeting customer standards. Therefore, the consumption of the Cooperative's products is quite favorable, expanding day by day.

The OCOP program is exploiting local potential and strengths, promoting brand building, linking production and product consumption, creating momentum for sustainable agricultural economic development, contributing to improving people's lives.
