According to Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Le Hai Binh, the aviation and tourism industries always go hand in hand and support each other closely for mutual development. In particular, each flight of Vietnam Airlines is not only a transportation but also a place to tell stories and spread the cultural identity of Vietnam.
“Wherever Vietnam Airlines planes reach, the image of the country, culture and people of Vietnam will reach far and spread,” Deputy Minister Le Hai Binh emphasized while discussing on the sidelines of the event where Vietnam Airlines welcomed its 350 millionth passenger after 30 years of establishment on July 9 in Hue city.
- Tourism and aviation always have a close and parallel relationship. How does the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism evaluate the role and contribution of Vietnam Airlines in the development of Vietnam tourism?
Deputy Minister Le Hai Binh: In the world as well as in Vietnam, aviation and tourism always develop together. In recent years, we can clearly see the smooth and effective coordination between the tourism industry and Vietnam Airlines.
Tourism has become an important bridge between Vietnam and the world. The development of the tourism industry must be mentioned with the companionship of the Vietnamese aviation industry, especially Vietnam Airlines, which has closely supported each other to develop together.
First of all, the spread of Vietnam Airlines reflects the spirit of “Spreading wings far” that the airline has oriented. Wherever Vietnam Airlines flies, the image and presence of Vietnam is spread to. Thanks to that, the level of convenience for international visitors to Vietnam is also significantly improved.
However, the role of Vietnam Airlines does not stop at transporting passengers. The airline also does a great job of promoting the image of the country, people and culture of Vietnam. Through the sophisticated service options and the dedication of the flight attendants, passengers when boarding a Vietnam Airlines plane can feel like they are stepping into a Vietnamese cultural space, full of sincerity, hospitality and national identity.

In addition, Vietnam Airlines’ membership in the global airline alliance SkyTeam also brings many great benefits. The connection between Vietnam Airlines and major airlines in the world has helped expand flight ranges, increasing Vietnam’s connectivity to many key regions. This is the factor that supports the tourism industry to access more new markets, while better serving diverse international tourist groups.
- How do you evaluate the effectiveness of the Vietnam tourism promotion programs that Vietnam Airlines has implemented in recent times in many countries and regions around the world?
Deputy Minister Le Hai Binh: Based on the close cooperation between aviation and tourism, tourism promotion programs in key markets in Europe with the support of Vietnam Airlines have brought about very clear results.
We can imagine that if tourism promotion in these countries were carried out without the presence of a national airline or without convenient flight routes, it would be difficult to achieve effectiveness. However, thanks to Vietnam Airlines proactively opening more direct flights to the above key markets, promotional activities have become practical and created favorable conditions for the strong growth of international visitors.
Not stopping there, Vietnam Airlines also demonstrated its professionalism and international integration capabilities through coordinating the organization of many cultural events and activities to promote the image of Vietnam abroad. Thanks to that, tourism promotion activities implemented by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism have achieved positive results in recent times.
- The number of international visitors is growing impressively in the first half of this year. What do you expect from the results for 2025 and the following years?
Deputy Minister Le Hai Binh: Positive signs of recovery are continuing to be maintained, reflecting the clear recovery of both the aviation and tourism industries after the pandemic.
Immediately after the COVID-19 pandemic, with the attention of the Party, the State and the efforts of the tourism industry with the spirit of overcoming difficulties, creativity and flexibility, the tourism industry has made a breakthrough and steady development as it is today. From a few hundred thousand international visitors in the 1990s, by 2024, Vietnam has welcomed nearly 18 million international visitors and more than 110 million domestic visitors.
Despite the global context still facing many difficulties and “headwinds”, the number of international visitors to Vietnam is still increasing steadily.
In the first 6 months of this year alone, Vietnam welcomed about 10.7 million international visitors and 77.5 million domestic visitors, which is a very encouraging number. In the coming time, the tourism industry will continue to promote solutions to maintain this growth momentum, with the goal of making tourism a truly spearhead economic sector. Specifically, we expect the tourism industry to contribute to achieving an 8% growth rate in 2025 and towards double-digit growth in the following years.

Of course, the development of the tourism industry cannot come from the efforts of a single industry or business. It requires the joint efforts of all levels, sectors and localities. A typical example is Hue city, the locality chosen to host the National Tourism Year 2025.
We have witnessed the efforts of the people of Hue in preserving and promoting the cultural values of the ancient capital, along with the aspiration to develop their homeland in a sustainable way. When those cultural values are combined with the “far-reaching wings” of Vietnam Airlines, we will have a harmonious chorus, contributing to bringing the image of Vietnam to fly further and wider on the world tourism map.
- Thank you very much./.
