Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's working trip to attend the 54th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland from January 16 is an opportunity for Vietnam to affirm its contributions and role at multilateral forums.

Swiss experts gave the above opinion when talking to Vietnam News Agency reporters in the area about the Prime Minister 's working trip, and hoped that the working trip will be successful.

According to Mr. Philipp Rösler, former German Vice Chancellor and the first Honorary Consul of Vietnam in Switzerland, Vietnam has made clear contributions at multilateral forums in recent times.

He emphasized: “Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh leading a high-level delegation, including many business representatives, to the upcoming WEF Annual Meeting in Davos is an important milestone. The delegation's activities will be another success in a series of outstanding foreign affairs events of Vietnam in recent times. Through activities like this, Vietnam demonstrates to international friends that it is a country with strengths in future-oriented economic plans, focusing strongly on sustainable growth and digitalization, in all sectors from food, agriculture, manufacturing to services and digital solutions."

At Davos, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will attend and speak, sharing Vietnam's vision at key sessions of the Conference, including the Vietnam-WEF National Strategy Dialogue with leading corporations on the topic "Next Horizon: Promoting Transformation, Opening Up New Growth Drivers in Vietnam;" the Policy Dialogue "Vietnam: Orienting a Global Vision," and a discussion with a number of ASEAN leaders on "Promoting the Role of Global Cooperation in ASEAN."

Mr. Ivo Sieber, former Swiss Ambassador to Vietnam, said he has high expectations for the upcoming working trip of the Vietnamese high-ranking delegation to Davos because the Prime Minister will not only attend the conference in Davos but also have meetings on the sidelines.

He assessed that over the past 50 years since the establishment of official relations, Vietnam and Switzerland have many joint development cooperation projects, as well as similarities. He cited the example of Vietnam being a member of the United Nations Human Rights Council for the 2023-2025 term, while Switzerland also held the position of President of this body last year.

“I hope that the upcoming working trip of the delegation led by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will be an opportunity to further promote Vietnam's image in the international arena," he shared.

Vietnam should take advantage of multilateral cooperation platforms such as the Davos conference to show the world the achievements of the Party and the Government in recent years, said Roger Köppel, a former member of the Swiss People's Party and editor-in-chief of Die Weltwoche, in an interview with a Vietnam News Agency reporter at the launching event of the Vietnam-Switzerland Economic Forum in Zurich.

He emphasized: "You have experienced the pain of war in the 20th century, but I see that Vietnam puts the past behind, looks to the future and strives to maintain peace. To me, Vietnam is a model of cooperation and maintaining balance."

Meanwhile, Mr. Ewald Beivi, an official in charge of business relations and development at the University of Zurich, said that the conference in Davos is an opportunity for leaders of countries, corporations and organizations to meet, exchange views and develop action plans.

“The WEF conference in Davos is a great opportunity for Vietnam to seek new ideas and learn about new trends. It is important to go there to listen and connect. It can be said that if you do not keep up with the new trends of the times, you will be at a disadvantage in today's global competition,” he said./.
