In a solemn atmosphere, with profound gratitude, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh offered incense and flowers and observed a moment of silence in remembrance of General Nguyen Chi Thanh - a steadfast cadre, an outstanding military and political leader, and an exemplary disciple of President Ho Chi Minh.


General Nguyen Chi Thanh was born on January 1, 1914, in Niem Pho village, Quang Tho commune, Quang Dien district, Thua Thien province (now Quang Dien commune, Hue City). Born and raised in a country under colonial rule, where the people suffered greatly, he quickly became enlightened and joined the revolutionary movement.

He was admitted to the Indochinese Communist Party when he was just over 20 years old and was entrusted with many important responsibilities in the Party, State, and army. The name and career of General Nguyen Chi Thanh are always associated with the victories of the Vietnamese revolution and the growth of the Vietnam People's Army.
