Accordingly, directly going to the project site for inspection, the Prime Minister requested relevant units to continue to carry out work after the inspection conclusion, anyone who violates will be handled according to regulations, the authority of each level will handle; at the same time, limit the current status, restart the project, consider this project as urgent.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized that the restart and completion of the Can Tho Oncology Hospital project is of great significance, meeting the urgent need for medical examination and treatment of the people, and at the same time not allowing the project to continue to drag on, causing waste.

In order to complete Can Tho Oncology Hospital soon, the Prime Minister directed to make a decision to end the project implementation with ODA capital and switch to public investment, including the central budget; conduct acceptance and payment for completed work, and continue to implement the remaining work items.
For Can Tho City, the Prime Minister directed the city to strengthen the project management board, complete the hospital no later than November 30, 2026; from January 1, 2027, put the hospital into operation to serve the people, and not allow negativity, corruption, or waste to occur.

On the same day, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh also visited the old Can Tho Oncology Hospital, inspected the current state of the facilities, and visited and encouraged the medical staff, patients and their families. Here, the Prime Minister shared the difficulties and hardships of patients and their families, because they had to travel far to Ho Chi Minh City for medical examination and treatment, and the travel and accommodation costs were very expensive.

Talking to patients and their families, the Prime Minister said that he is actively directing the relevant agencies to soon restart the project of a new, more spacious hospital to better serve the people. In addition, the Prime Minister also asked the agencies to study the model of building accommodation for people coming to receive medical examination and treatment according to the non-profit principle.
The Can Tho Oncology Hospital project has a total initial investment of more than 1,700 billion VND (including ODA capital from Hungary and domestic counterpart funds), with a scale of 500 beds. The project started in October 2017, is expected to be completed by the end of 2020, and is expected to become the largest and most modern oncology hospital in the Mekong Delta region.
However, in 2022, the Can Tho Oncology Hospital project was temporarily suspended when it reached 82% of the construction volume and more than 16% of the equipment supply and installation. Since then, the hospital building has been exposed to the sun and rain, with weeds growing everywhere due to slow progress, causing waste. Meanwhile, the old Can Tho Oncology Hospital is deteriorating and overloaded, with 2-3 patients sharing one bed, and old equipment and machinery.
