Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh receives Qatar's Minister of State for Energy

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh asked Qatar to support Vietnam in the energy sector, increasing and maintaining regular supply of energy products such as crude oil, gas, and chemicals.

According to the special correspondent of VNA, during the official visit to the State of Qatar, on the afternoon of October 31, in the capital Doha, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received Mr. Saad bin Sherida Al Kaabi, Minister of State in charge of energy affairs of Qatar and CEO of Qatar Energy Group - Qatar's state oil and gas company, one of the world's leading liquefied natural gas (LNG) producers.

At the meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that he had a successful meeting with the King, Prime Minister and Speaker of the Qatari Parliament with many outstanding results.

The two sides agreed to acknowledge the encouraging results in bilateral relations over the past 30 years (1993-2024); agreed on a number of specific orientations and measures to further enhance the effectiveness of bilateral cooperation in the coming time; and agreed to set the goal of soon upgrading Vietnam-Qatar relations to a new level.

In particular, energy cooperation (including traditional and new energy) is one of the priority contents, this is also a strong field of Qatar and Vietnam has a need for cooperation.

The two sides agreed to negotiate an agreement on this content, assigning the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Qatari Minister of State in charge of energy issues to discuss specific measures to enhance cooperation.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh asked Qatar to support Vietnam in the energy sector, increase and maintain regular supply of energy products such as crude oil, gas, chemicals, especially liquefied natural gas (LNG) to ensure electricity supply.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh asked the Secretary of State to direct Qatar Energy to increase investment and promote oil and gas and energy cooperation with Vietnamese partners, especially with the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group, to enhance Vietnam's self-reliance in the field of gas-fired power production; as well as cooperate in implementing projects on oil and gas exploration, exploitation and processing, offshore wind power, solar energy, hydrogen, etc.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said Vietnam is amending the Electricity Law and related regulations to reduce administrative intervention and increase the initiative and autonomy of enterprises to further facilitate the operations and cooperation of foreign investors with domestic partners.

For his part, Minister of State Saad bin Sherida Al Kaabi thanked the Prime Minister for the comprehensive and clear information provided; highly agreed and fully supported the Prime Minister's cooperation proposals; affirmed that these are very potential fields, especially electricity and LNG, and said that he is negotiating with the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group on cooperation projects.

He assessed that Vietnam will continue to achieve the highest growth rate in Asia, leading to high growth in energy demand; expressed support for negotiating and signing cooperation documents with Vietnam on energy and gas, and proposed negotiating an agreement on the production and supply of urea - a product processed from oil and gas.

Regarding new energy projects, the company is ready to connect businesses to cooperate and invest with Vietnamese partners. State Minister Saad bin Sherida Al Kaabi said he will visit Vietnam to discuss and promote specific cooperation projects.

The State Secretary also agreed with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's view that cooperation in this field needs to be long-term, stable with a suitable roadmap and steps, "not missing cooperation opportunities." The Prime Minister suggested that prices follow the market mechanism, be public, transparent and suitable to the conditions of Vietnam as a developing country./.
