Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh arrives in Rio de Janeiro, starting a working trip in Brazil

(Chinhphu.vn) - On the morning of July 5 (local time, or the same afternoon Hanoi time), Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, his wife and a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation arrived in Rio de Janeiro, starting a working trip to attend the 2025 BRICS Summit and bilateral activities in the Federative Republic of Brazil from July 4 to 8, 2025, at the invitation of President of the Federative Republic of Brazil Lula da Silva.

Welcoming the Prime Minister and the Vietnamese delegation at the airport were Brazilian Deputy Foreign Minister Laudemar Goncalves de Aguiar Neto; Vietnamese Ambassador to Brazil Bui Van Nghi and officials, staff of the Embassy, and Vietnamese expatriates in Brazil.

With the theme "Strengthening Southern Cooperation to Promote More Inclusive and Sustainable Governance", the BRICS Summit 2025 is one of the important multilateral events, attended by about 20 senior leaders of countries, the United Nations Secretary-General and leaders of many international organizations.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will attend and deliver a speech at the high-level discussions of the BRICS Summit. On this occasion, the Prime Minister will meet with leaders of many countries attending the Summit.

Regarding bilateral activities in Brazil, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will offer flowers at the Memorial Monument honoring President Ho Chi Minh in Rio de Janeiro; meet with Brazilian leaders; attend and speak at the Vietnam-Brazil business dialogue program and receive leaders of many large Brazilian corporations and enterprises; visit and work at a number of famous cultural and sports facilities in Brazil.

This is the first time Vietnam has participated as a Partner Country at the BRICS Summit, a multilateral cooperation mechanism between emerging economies that is increasingly influential both economically and politically.

BRICS member countries and guest countries attending the BRICS Summit are countries with Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, important partners, and traditional friends of Vietnam; Brazil is a country with a Strategic Partnership, with strengths that Vietnam needs to supplement, in line with Vietnam's sustainable development orientation.

Therefore, attending the Conference is an opportunity for Vietnam to proactively and actively participate in the process of promoting inclusive and sustainable global governance, raising the voice of developing countries in addressing current challenges, as well as exchanging experiences, perspectives, visions, and practices on development, promoting cooperation in areas consistent with Vietnam's priorities and interests.

The visit is also an opportunity for Vietnam to consolidate and enhance the good friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Brazil as well as enhance the image and position of Vietnam in the Central and South American region; promote the diversification of economic, trade and investment cooperation between Vietnam and potential regions, and maximize the attraction of international resources to serve the country's development goals in the era of national development.
