Da Nang has favorable conditions for developing e-commerce.
According to Nguyen Van Tru, Deputy Director of the Da Nang Department of Industry and Trade, the city has identified promoting the application of e-commerce in the retail sector as one of the key tasks to realize the goal of building a smart, modern, dynamic, and livable city.
A workshop promoting the application of e-commerce in the retail sector was organized by the Da Nang Department of Industry and Trade on the morning of September 24th.
In the first eight months of 2025, the total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue in the entire city are estimated to reach over 168 trillion VND, an increase of 24% compared to the same period in 2024. Of this, retail sales of goods are estimated at nearly 92 trillion VND, an increase of 16.4%; retail sales at supermarkets and shopping malls are estimated at nearly 8 trillion VND, an increase of nearly 17% compared to the same period.
The city's commercial infrastructure is increasingly developing with over 500 supermarkets, shopping malls, and convenience store chains, 240 markets of various types, alongside tens of thousands of traditional shops, creating a widespread distribution network to meet the increasingly diverse needs of residents and tourists.
According to Tran Chi Cuong, Vice Chairman of the Da Nang City People's Committee, as a major socio -economic center of Central Vietnam, Da Nang has favorable conditions for strong e-commerce development. These include modern IT infrastructure, a high proportion of young people, increasingly popular digital consumption habits, and the city's consistent orientation in building a digital government, digital economy, and digital society.
Encouraging the application of e-commerce to retail.
However, for Da Nang's retail sector to develop sustainably in the context of deep international economic integration and increasing competitive pressure, Mr. Tran Chi Cuong emphasized the need for collaboration among many stakeholders: management agencies, industry associations, businesses, cooperatives, business households, and small traders.
The Department of Industry and Trade, acting as the standing agency, needs to proactively develop and implement programs and projects to support businesses, cooperatives, household businesses, and small traders in applying e-commerce over the next 2-3 years. The focus should be on organizing training and workshops on digital skills, online business skills, and guidance on payment, shipping, and marketing platforms.
At the same time, the Department of Industry and Trade needs to closely coordinate with relevant agencies to promptly remove difficulties related to mechanisms and policies, creating the most favorable conditions for businesses and people to participate in e-commerce. The police, tax, statistics, science and technology, culture, sports and tourism, finance, agriculture and environment sectors, etc., should play their roles and coordinate closely and synchronously in managing and supporting the development of e-commerce.
Tran Chi Cuong, Vice Chairman of the Da Nang City People's Committee, delivered a speech at the workshop.
The Vice Chairman of Da Nang City requested that relevant units proactively and persistently address difficulties and create the most favorable conditions for e-commerce to become one of the important driving forces promoting the development of the retail sector. He also requested that the Vietnam E-commerce Association (VECOM), VCCI Central Region, etc., closely cooperate with the business community and support small traders and business households in accessing and applying e-commerce.
Strengthen coordination with exchanges and digital technology platforms, and electronic payment solution providers such as Shopee, VNPAY, MoMo… to facilitate businesses and individuals' access to safe, modern, and transparent online business channels.
Mr. Tran Chi Cuong also stated that the Da Nang city government strongly encourages entrepreneurship, innovation, and the development of new digital business models in the retail sector. This contributes to creating more vitality and expanding market access opportunities for the city's businesses and small traders.
With that in mind, he suggested that businesses, cooperatives, production facilities, and small traders in markets, supermarkets, shopping malls, convenience stores, etc., should boldly change their business mindset. They should proactively shift from traditional sales to combining them with e-commerce, utilizing online platforms, social networks, and digital platforms to expand their distribution channels. In particular, they should focus on promoting and selling OCOP products, local specialties, and typical rural industrial products.
"The city government will accompany and support them, but the initiative and determination of the businesses and small traders themselves are the decisive factors for success in this transformation process," emphasized Tran Chi Cuong, Vice Chairman of the Da Nang City People's Committee.
