Promote the development of food processing industry

Thanks to the good exploitation of opportunities and potential of raw materials of the agricultural sector, step by step applying advanced production and processing processes, in recent years, the food processing industry of the province has had positive developments. However, the number of enterprises with products participating in export is still limited, requiring enterprises to invest in modern technology, fully apply the system of regulations and technical standards in production, creating quality products with high competitiveness in the market.

Established in 2021, thanks to investing in modern equipment systems and production lines, always ensuring food hygiene and safety and meeting ISO 22000:2018 standards in the production process, up to now, Vinh Thinh Livestock and Dairy Processing Joint Stock Company (Vinh Tuong) with pasteurized fresh milk products, yogurt under the brand name "Vinh Tuong Milk" processed from cow's milk has had a solid position in the provincial market.

In 2024, many of the company's dairy products were recognized as provincial-level OCOP products and honored as typical rural industrial products at the regional level. To date, nearly 40 schools in Vinh Tuong and Yen Lac districts are using the company's dairy products in their student meals.

Along with Vinh Thinh Livestock and Dairy Processing Joint Stock Company, there are more and more enterprises operating in the food and beverage processing industry in the province. Since 2015, the province has issued many mechanisms and policies to encourage enterprises to invest in rural agricultural development and create positive and widespread impacts on investment projects to develop the food processing industry.

In fact, thanks to the good exploitation of opportunities and potential of raw materials of the agricultural sector and the gradual application of advanced production and processing processes, in the past 5 years, the number of enterprises and laborers in the food processing industry of the province has tended to increase quite rapidly; the industry has a fairly high growth rate, reaching 14%/year.

Some key products contributing to the industrial value of the province's food and beverage processing industry include tea products; vegetable oil; milk, rice milk powder... and handicraft products (wine, sausage, yogurt, milk cake...).

Up to now, according to statistics, the province has 78 enterprises and cooperatives operating in the food processing industry with nearly 5,000 employees. In particular, aiming to develop the food processing industry in depth with many products exported to foreign markets, with high value, the province has created all favorable conditions, attracting many large-scale enterprises to invest in the area.

Among them, Tam Dao Beef Farm and Processing Factory Complex, a joint venture between Vilico (a subsidiary of Vinamilk ) and Japan's Sojitz Multi-industry Group, with a total investment of VND 1,670 billion, has started construction since 2023, covering an area of ​​75.6 hectares in Tam Dao district with automatic slaughtering and processing lines, conveyor systems and smart packaging, helping to maintain the temperature and freshness of the meat, meeting strict standards from major markets such as Japan and Europe.

Putting all items into operation from May 2025, the project is expected to not only meet domestic market demand but also aim to export high-quality "Made in Vietnam" beef to many countries around the world , promoting the province's food processing industry to new heights.

However, most of the enterprises operating in the food processing industry of the province are small-scale; the number of enterprises participating in production according to the value chain is still small; few enterprises have products participating in export because they do not meet the requirements and strict standards on technology, product quality... leading to low product value, development is not commensurate with potential advantages...

Promote the development of the province's food and beverage processing industry in the coming time in conjunction with the planning of raw material areas, creating a foundation for industrialization and modernization of agriculture and rural areas on the basis of closely linking the interests between the processing industry and raw material producers. The province encourages and creates conditions for small and medium-sized enterprises to innovate technology and equipment;

Create conditions for joint ventures and associations with large enterprises in the region and the whole country; attract investment, develop a number of large-scale enterprises in the area, develop a number of products in the processing industry, have advantages of local raw materials, have consumption and export markets such as tea products (black tea, green tea, tea bags, scented); powdered nutritional products; processed food, cakes, etc.
