At the end of the workday, Ms. Pham Thi Tu (resident of Binh Thanh District) hurried to the Co.opmart supermarket near her office to shop and prepare dinner for the whole family.

Ms. Tú shared that her family has maintained the habit of eating vegetarian meals during the seventh lunar month for many years. However, with a busy lifestyle, she can't always prepare elaborate and nutritious vegetarian meals for the whole family. Therefore, she often visits Co.opmart supermarket to buy ready-made vegetarian dishes such as vegetarian ribs, vegetarian pork sausage, or vegetarian dumplings.

"Previously, finding vegetarian food wasn't easy; only specialized vegetarian stores sold it. But now, most large supermarkets carry a full range of vegetarian products, making preparing vegetarian meals throughout the month much simpler and more convenient," said Ms. Tu.

She also said that having a wide selection of vegetarian products at the supermarket helps ease her stress because she wants to ensure her whole family has delicious yet nutritious meals.

Not only the elderly, but many young people also choose to eat vegetarian during the Vu Lan festival (a Buddhist festival honoring parents). Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa (24 years old, residing in District 5) believes that vegetarianism is not only a beautiful cultural tradition but also helps purify the body and soul. Hoa often chooses reputable supermarkets like Co.opmart to buy fresh and delicious ingredients, ensuring safety for her health.

"I'm worried after reading about the quality of vegetarian food in the media recently, so I always prioritize shopping at reputable places and preparing meals at home," Hoa shared.

Hoa is not an isolated case; many housewives share certain concerns about food hygiene, choosing to prepare vegetarian meals at home to ensure food safety and save costs.

Saigon Co.op offers significant discounts on vegetarian food.

To meet the increased consumer demand during the Vu Lan festival month, Saigon Co.op is launching a series of attractive promotions from August 15th to August 28th at over 800 retail outlets nationwide.

Accordingly, vegetarian food products such as fermented bean curd, vegetarian oyster sauce, soy sauce, vegetarian fish sauce, vegetarian chili paste, vegetarian vermicelli soup seasoning cubes, vegetarian chili salt, various types of vegetarian instant noodles, vegetarian ribs, vegetarian chicken nuggets, vegetarian pork sausage, vegetarian grain pate, vegetarian lotus seed porridge, soft tofu, green peas, vegetarian dumplings… and many other products are heavily discounted, with prices ranging from only 3,900 VND to 119,800 VND.

A representative from Saigon Co.op stated that from now until the end of August, the supermarket will continue to cooperate with suppliers to organize the "Mushroom Festival," aiming to diversify vegetarian dishes and offer more choices to customers during the seventh lunar month.

The promotional program, applicable at supermarket chains such as Co.opmart, Co.opXtra, Co.op Food, and Finelife in Ho Chi Minh City, the Southeast, Southwest, and Central Highlands regions, will offer discounts of 15-30% on various types of mushrooms, including fresh cordyceps, brown reishi mushrooms, Thai enoki mushrooms, white reishi mushrooms, and Korean enoki mushrooms, with discounts of 23-24%. Vegetables, fruits, and other vegetarian products will also be heavily discounted to meet consumer demand during the Vu Lan festival season.

In addition, various vegetables, fruits, and ready-to-eat vegetarian products such as vegetarian dim sum sticky rice cakes, vegetarian ribs, Ly Son red onions, mustard greens, bitter melon, white cabbage, South African Fuji apples, Tai Nung pears, etc., will also be discounted by 15-25%, valid from now until August 21st.
