The shrimp seed production industry welcomed the new spring in joy in 2023 with many successes. Shrimp seed output increased sharply, reaching more than 40 billion, an increase of 4.7% compared to 2022, meeting more than 35% of the country's shrimp seed demand, making Ninh Thuan the largest shrimp seed production locality in the country. In particular, it proactively produced 9,500 pairs of white-leg shrimp and black tiger shrimp parents, reducing dependence on imports from abroad. In 2023, the demand for parent shrimp in the country will be about 180,000-185,000 pairs, while only 50,000 pairs can be produced domestically, the rest are mainly imported from the US and Thailand. Parent shrimp play a key role in the brackish water shrimp production chain, so Ninh Thuan's achievements are highly appreciated by the Directorate of Fisheries. To proactively source parent shrimp to limit dependence on natural and imported sources, the Directorate of Fisheries encourages Ninh Thuan, a locality with favorable natural conditions, to expand production, improve productivity and quality of shrimp seeds to meet the farming needs of the people.
One of the factors that created a breakthrough for the shrimp seed production industry is Moana Ninh Thuan Company Limited, which has invested in expanding the Parent Black Tiger Shrimp Production Center in Son Hai 2 village, Phuoc Dinh commune (Thuan Nam) to meet international standards. This is the only enterprise authorized by Moana Technologies LLC Hawaii (USA) to directly supply parent black tiger shrimp to domestic and foreign markets. Cooperating with foreign countries to produce parent black tiger shrimp has made the company a leading enterprise in researching and applying high technology (CNC) in black tiger shrimp production. In practice, post larvae produced from the company's parent sources are assessed by farmers as suitable for the ecological environment in Ninh Thuan, the Mekong Delta, ... growing quickly, healthy, with a high survival rate. In 2023, the company will supply the market with 5,000 pairs of parent black tiger shrimp, with a reproductive capacity of 500,000 larvae/spawning. Along with that, to contribute to the goal of building Ninh Thuan into a center for shrimp seed production in the country, the G3 generation parent shrimp seed production center in Son Hai 2 village of the Viet - Uc Group has also produced 4,000 pairs of parent shrimp and is aiming for higher output in the coming time. The quality of parent shrimp and tiger shrimp produced in Ninh Thuan has been confirmed in practice, consumed by 20 companies and exported to countries such as: China, Thailand, Bangladesh, Nigeria...

Shrimp seed production activities in the province are constantly developing, and are highly appreciated by the market nationwide for their quality. Enterprises have promoted the application of many advanced techniques in shrimp seed production, such as: Culturing pure algae in a closed circulation system, sedimentation technology, water filtration, treatment with Ozone, ultraviolet rays, rearing larvae using microbiological technology; applying molecular biology techniques to diagnose and test shrimp diseases using the most advanced and modern methods. The whole province has 425 shrimp seed production facilities in operation, of which 27 shrimp seed production enterprises apply CNC. 100% of shrimp seed production facilities are certified to meet the conditions for producing and rearing aquatic seeds; and are monitored for disease safety. Most members of the Ninh Thuan Aquatic Seed Association use the "Ninh Thuan Shrimp Seed" certification mark on their labels to trace their origin, promote their brand and affirm their reputation in the market. The continuous development of the shrimp seed industry is also demonstrated by the fact that recently large enterprises have cooperated with each other to maximize the strengths of each party to produce high-quality seeds to meet the needs of farming households; small and medium-sized shrimp seed farms have also joined together to invest in new advanced farming equipment.
In order to achieve the goal of building Ninh Thuan into a center of high-quality shrimp seed in the country, in 2023, the province directed the synchronous implementation of solutions, in which the highlight is to complete the 1/2000 zoning plan of the high-quality shrimp seed production areas of An Hai and Son Hai; adjust the concentrated aquatic seed production area of An Hai to 186.6 hectares; the Nhon Hai aquatic seed production area to more than 100 hectares. Focus on investing in synchronous construction and basically completing essential infrastructure for shrimp seed production; rearranging production in the planning area towards CNC. The Provincial People's Committee also issued Decision No. 635/QD-UBND dated November 17, 2023 recognizing the An Hai CNC shrimp seed production area with a scale of 168 hectares and Decision No. 639/QD-UBND dated November 20, 2023 recognizing the Son Hai CNC parent shrimp seed production area with a scale of 37.7 hectares. Viet - Uc Ninh Thuan Company Limited and S6 Investment Joint Stock Company are recognized as large-scale shrimp seed production enterprises outside the province as core.
In the coming time, the province encourages organizations, enterprises and individuals to apply scientific and technical advances, apply quality control systems and biosafety, disease safety in shrimp seed production and rearing to create high-quality seed products. Effectively implement programs to domesticate black tiger shrimp and white-leg shrimp parents to proactively provide high-quality domestically produced parent shrimp to the farming market. With the right orientation, it is expected that the shrimp seed production industry will make a breakthrough in the coming time.
A successful year for the shrimp seed production industry has contributed significantly to overcoming the current shortage of seeds. The joy of businesses, shrimp seed production facilities and thousands of shrimp farming households nationwide is therefore multiplied in the new year 2024.
Our province has set a target of striving to produce 50 billion shrimp seeds by 2025; proactively producing 30% of white-leg shrimp parents and 40% of black tiger shrimp parents with high quality and disease-free.
