Mr. Nguyen Minh Hung, Deputy Head of the Trade Management Department of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Industry and Trade, said that in 2024, the city's e-commerce grew by 52%, higher than the national average (42%).

Accordingly, in terms of total e-commerce sales growth compared to the same period, Ho Chi Minh City is leading the country. The city's e-commerce sales also account for 33% of the total national e-commerce revenue. The explosion, maintenance and development of platforms such as Shopee, Tiktok Shop, Lazada, Tiki, ... along with the development of support services such as logistics, electronic payments, and digital marketing have created the most vibrant e-commerce ecosystem in the country.

Moreover, according to experts, the technology infrastructure in Ho Chi Minh City is also advanced, with the highest number of internet subscribers in the country, a high rate of smartphone usage and a strongly developed telecommunications network. This creates favorable conditions for consumers to access e-commerce and businesses to carry out online business activities.

Recently, to develop e-commerce in the area, the Department of Industry and Trade coordinated with the Department of Information and Communications to sign a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the fields of e-commerce, e-transaction security and providing content on the Internet. In addition, the industry and trade sector coordinated with MCN (Multi-Channel Network) management units to invite KOLs, content creators with great influence on social networks to participate in online sales livestream sessions....

According to Mr. Hung, in the coming time, the City will continue to implement solutions to encourage and support businesses and consumers to participate in e-commerce transactions; promote online shopping and cashless payments; at the same time, improve the capacity and effectiveness of state management of e-commerce in tax management, inspection and examination of product quality, ensure that e-commerce businesses comply with legal regulations, create a favorable and safe legal environment for e-commerce transactions in the area and between the city and other provinces/cities...

“Ho Chi Minh City also builds a policy to attract investment, forming specialized logistics centers in important areas to support warehousing and transporting goods for e-commerce businesses. These centers will help reduce transportation costs, shorten delivery times and improve operational efficiency; encourage and support businesses to use AI and IoT technology to optimize the delivery process, from warehouse management to coordinating delivery routes,” said Mr. Hung.
