Ozon Global, the international version of one of Russia’s largest e-commerce platforms, receives 80% of its orders from China. Ozon Global says it has attracted at least 100,000 sellers from the country.

In 2022, the number of Chinese sellers is about 10,000.

Meanwhile, Wildberries - the largest e-commerce platform by sales - said it officially launched a channel for sellers in the country of a billion people last year.

Some Chinese suppliers said that in addition to opening accounts on the site’s dedicated international platforms, they also registered e-commerce stores in Russia, a process that required opening a Moscow bank account to pay for domestic warehouses and receive payments in rubles.

Suppliers of the world's second largest economy say they want to "fill the void" left by foreign companies withdrawing from the country due to the conflict in Ukraine.

The country is an alternative source of demand as Western markets such as the European Union and the United States could boost China's e-commerce industry, they added.

China's e-commerce grew 13 percent year-on-year in the first half of this year to a record 1.25 trillion yuan ($175 billion), or 5.9 percent of total trade during the period, according to official data.

E-commerce is expected to grow 15.6% in 2023, accounting for 5.7% of China's total merchandise trade, up from 4.9% in 2022 and 1% in 2015.
