According to the latest rankings just announced by the Badminton World Federation (BWF), tennis player Nguyen Thuy Linh officially rose to 18th place in the world women's singles, up 2 places compared to last week's rankings.
This position was achieved thanks to impressive performance over the past two months. Accordingly, Thuy Linh just won the runner-up position at the 2025 Canada Open in the Super 300 system, bringing home 5,950 points.
This achievement, combined with the fact that the two players above her, Hojmark Kjaersfeldt (Denmark) and Busanan Ongbamrungphan (Thailand), were demoted to 19th and 20th place, allowed Thuy Linh to rise to 18th place in the world for the first time.
Not only did she set a new milestone in her career, but this was also the highest ranking ever for a Vietnamese female tennis player in singles, marking a historic turning point in the development journey of Vietnamese badminton.
After the Canada Open, Thuy Linh did not participate in the Japan Open last week and the China Open this week.
The tennis player from Phu Tho will join Vu Thi Trang (women's singles), Nguyen Hai Dang, Le Duc Phat (men's singles), Tran Dinh Manh and Nguyen Dinh Hoang (men's doubles) to participate in the 2025 Badminton World Championship, taking place at the end of August in France.
In this tournament, Thuy Linh is the leading hope of Vietnamese badminton. If she goes deep in her event, Thuy Linh will continue to have the opportunity to improve her ranking.
