The waterway system of Hue Imperial City is a unique tourism resource associated with the ancient royal court. |
Recently, the People's Committee of Phu Xuan District organized a launching ceremony for the movement "Joining hands for a clean and beautiful Ngu Ha River." At the ceremony, the Standing Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Phu Xuan District, Hoang Tan Ninh, called on officials, Party members, Youth Union members, association members, and the people, especially those living on both banks of the Ngu Ha River, to raise their awareness of environmental protection, contributing to making the river a unique scenic highlight and gradually forming a distinctive tourism product for Phu Xuan District and Hue . This is not only a responsibility to nature but also a way to revive a river with historical and cultural value.
Following the launching ceremony, more than 1,000 officials, union members, and citizens participated in a comprehensive cleanup and restoration of urban order along the riverside roads. Simultaneously, the "Green River" youth volunteer team was officially launched, demonstrating the collective efforts of young people in protecting their homeland's heritage.
The revival of the Ngu Ha River also opens up opportunities for developing ecotourism on the waterway system of the Hue Imperial Citadel. At the forum "Some orientations for the development of heritage economy , green economy and digital economy in Hue" at the end of 2024, Hoang Viet Trung, Director of the Hue Imperial Citadel Conservation Center, said that, "if properly exploited, this waterway system can become a unique tourism product, both preserving heritage and developing a sustainable economy."
According to Mr. Hoang Viet Trung, the Ngu Ha River could be developed into a waterway tourism route, where tourists can travel downstream by boat to explore historical sites along both banks. In addition, on-river culinary services with floating restaurants and boats serving royal cuisine could create a unique attraction. Tourists would not only enjoy the beauty of the river but also have the opportunity to experience Hue's cultural atmosphere in a unique way.
Furthermore, the waterway system can also become a stage for artistic performances recreating the atmosphere of ancient royal palaces, combining lighting and sound technology to provide vivid experiences. Another important point is that when the river becomes a tourist destination, the residents living along the river will become voluntary "river guardians." Then, there will no longer be carelessly floating garbage or polluted river water. Everyone understands that a clean river is an economic benefit and a source of pride for the entire community.
Hopefully, one day soon, tourists will be able to sit on small boats, gliding slowly along the Ngu Ha River, admiring historical relics and contributing to the revival of a precious heritage. When the roads and rivers are kept clean and green, and when the people work together to protect the environment, that will be a solid foundation for the sustainable development of tourism in Hue.
