Trusting her friend's advice, Ms. NTH (35 years old) went to a spa near her home to get fat-dissolving injections in her abdominal area. However, instead of achieving the desired beauty, she had to be hospitalized due to complications.

On October 31st, Dr. Nguyen Minh Nghia, head of the cosmetic surgery department at Hoai Nhai General Hospital ( Hanoi ), reported that the hospital had successfully performed surgery on a female patient who had suffered severe abdominal complications after receiving fat-dissolving injections at a spa.
The patient, Ms. NTH (35 years old, from Tuyen Quang ), was admitted to the hospital with a large amount of abdominal fat and many old scars.
Upon taking her medical history, the female patient stated that she is 1.55 meters tall and weighs approximately 75 kg. After giving birth, Ms. H. experienced uncontrolled weight gain, gaining nearly 20 kg in one year.
In recent years, Ms. H. has researched and followed advertised weight-loss diets, spending hundreds of millions of VND annually, but these diets only help her maintain her weight and not lose any weight.
Two years ago, Ms. H. heard from a friend about a non-invasive weight loss method that only required one injection to liquefy fat and reduce belly size.
Trusting her friend's advice, Ms. H. went to a spa near her home and had an unnamed solution injected into her lower abdomen. Instead of liquefying the fat, a week after the injection, Ms. H.'s abdomen developed many red, swollen, and hard bumps.
When I reported this to the spa owner, they advised me to buy antibiotics from a pharmacy, but my condition did not improve.
"Upon returning to the spa, the patient was referred to another clinic for injections and incision of the inflamed lesions to drain the pus, but the pus pockets appeared more densely, causing swelling and pain," Dr. Nghia shared about the patient's condition.
Ms. H. returned to the beauty salon, but it was closed and she could not be contacted. Towards the end of October 2024, the woman visited the cosmetic surgery department at Hoai Nhai General Hospital for examination.
Here, after examination, Dr. Nghia diagnosed the patient with an abdominal abscess following a fat-dissolving injection. The resulting complications included an uneven and hardened abdomen in the lower part of the body.
"The female patient had been treated at another medical facility for 6 months, undergoing drainage and dressing changes to heal the abscess, but this left many unsightly scars."
After examination, the doctors performed a combination of liposuction, abdominoplasty, removal of all lower abdominal skin and fat, and excision of all old fibrous scar tissue in the abdominal area, followed by abdominoplasty.
"After the surgery, the patient's health stabilized and they were discharged from the hospital to receive outpatient care," Dr. Nghia said.
According to Dr. Nghia, due to the increasing demand for beauty and weight loss among women, many spas advertise rapid beauty treatments, even offering fat-dissolving injections that claim the fat will be eliminated through urine. A layer of fatty residue will appear on the surface of the urine during bowel movements.
However, the doctor suggested that if a greasy film appears on the stool, it indicates severe kidney failure.
"The doctor's advice is that women need to carefully research the types of injections they receive. It's especially important to note that injections must be administered by a qualified doctor at a licensed medical facility."
"When complications occur, go immediately to a medical facility for examination and treatment to avoid affecting your health and leaving lasting consequences," Dr. Nghia advised.
