Tien Giang: Successfully completing the 2023 High School Graduation Exam

Along with the whole country, Tien Giang province has successfully organized the 2023 High School Graduation Exam, with over 15,000 candidates taking the exam. This year's High School Graduation Exam was assessed as quite basic, within the review program, and differentiated the candidates well. During the 2 days of the exam, security, order, and safety at the exam sites were ensured.

BASIC EXAM

According to the overall assessment, the exam questions in this year's exams are basically still kept in the same structure as previous years, ensuring the goals and requirements of a high school graduation exam, the content of the questions focuses on the 12th grade program. However, the content of the questions has not yet created a breakthrough, developing the capacity and thinking of candidates. Accordingly, the structure of the questions is about 70% - 80% of the content of the questions is used for the purpose of high school graduation; the rest is used to differentiate candidates into universities and colleges.

This year's Literature exam is considered quite good and highly educational . One of the successes of the Literature exam is to limit the students' memorization and focus on applying knowledge. However, according to the assessment, the Literature exam is still following the old path, without any breakthroughs for the scale of a major exam.

The reading comprehension section is for a poem with 4 questions, which are part of the core knowledge to be reviewed, focusing on poetic form, vocabulary, and rhetorical devices. As for the writing section, the social argumentative question discusses emotional balance in life, the literary argumentative section requires the candidate to analyze an excerpt from the work “The Beggar’s Wife” by writer Kim Lan.

"With careful and serious preparation, the shared responsibility of departments, branches and sectors and the consensus and support of all the people, the 2023 High School Graduation Exam in Tien Giang took place smoothly, in a spirit of safety, seriousness and compliance with regulations. The number of candidates taking each exam was over 99%. This year's exam was assessed by most candidates as being within their ability, but still had the nature of classifying candidates. The exam results are expected to be announced on July 18."

However, with the knowledge and understanding that I have been equipped with, I have handled the requirements of the exam quite well and hope to get a score of 7.”

According to Ms. Truong Thi Chau Minh, a teacher at Tran Hung Dao High School, My Tho City, the Literature exam is quite educational, the content is quite basic. The Literature exam helped candidates have a complete view of social life as well as the spirit of solidarity of the people to overcome all difficulties and change their lives. With this exam, it is not too difficult for candidates to achieve an average score, however, to achieve a score of 9 or higher, it requires candidates to have high thinking, synthesis, reasoning ability and literary appreciation ability.

With the Math test, many teachers and candidates predict that getting a score of 5 is quite easy, however, there will be very few 10s, because the level of differentiation of this year's test is very high, especially in the last questions. The test consists of 50 questions, about 70% of the first questions are very basic, candidates who are willing to use a calculator and apply a few formulas can quickly find the answer; about 30% of the remaining questions are advanced to classify candidates, only really good candidates can get a score of 10. The Math test has about 4 to 6 questions that are difficult to extremely difficult to classify candidates into universities.

As for the English test, many candidates consider the test to be difficult. For many candidates, the content in the English test such as vocabulary, grammar, and sentence structure is quite familiar and does not puzzle the candidates. The reading comprehension part is not too difficult, as long as the candidate concentrates and finds the keywords, they can deduce the correct answer. It is expected that the average score of this year's English test will be from 5 to 6 points.

The Social Science exam is considered quite easy, the knowledge is in the 12th grade program. Compared to previous years, the History exam is less confusing for candidates, the questions are mainly in the form of knowledge reproduction, there are only about 5 "tricky" questions to classify candidates. The Geography and Civic Education exams are also relatively easy, the application exercises are suitable for candidates.

Meanwhile, many candidates taking the Natural Science exam assessed that the test was deeply differentiated, with many difficult questions. The difficulty and very difficult level of the exam focused on the last 10 questions, with many "tricky" problems appearing to classify the candidates.

With 3 components, the theoretical ratio of each subject is about 40%; the remaining 60% focuses on practical exercises from basic to advanced. According to the assessment of the candidates, with the combined exam of Natural Science subjects, it is not difficult to get above 5 points, but it is very difficult to get 9 and 10 points.

In each component exam, there are about 5 to 10 difficult questions to classify candidates. The expected score range in each combined exam will be from 6 to 7 points, there will be many 8 and 9 points, and of course, to get a score of 10, candidates must be really good and have in-depth knowledge.

ENSURING EXAM SITE SECURITY

In recent days, information from the media about the phenomenon of leaked high school graduation exam questions in 2023 in other localities has caused public concern. Meanwhile, in Tien Giang, at the exam sites, the security and order situation during the 2 days of the exam has been tightened.

At each examination site, 6 police officers are assigned to work; 2 to 5 inspectors and 2 to 4 inspectors from the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) sent to Tien Giang are assigned to work. Before each examination, the examination sites notify candidates of the items that are allowed and not allowed to be brought into the examination room, especially mobile phones. At each examination site, a room is arranged to store candidates' belongings 25 meters away from the examination room and officers are assigned to guard the candidates.

According to the Department of Education and Training of Tien Giang province, the area where exam papers and test papers are stored has police on duty, guarding 24 hours a day and ensuring fire and explosion prevention and safety, with security cameras monitoring and recording activities in the room 24 hours a day. Exam papers are transported and delivered on the same day.

On each exam day, the Examination Council will use 11 16-seat vehicles to transport exam papers from the exam sites to the Department of Education and Training's exam paper storage location; at the same time, use 2 16-seat vehicles to transport leaders of the exam sites from the Department of Education and Training's exam paper storage location to the exam sites, each vehicle will have police and inspectors on board to supervise.

According to statistics from the Department of Education and Training of Tien Giang province, in the Literature exam, the whole province had 15,298 candidates taking the exam, reaching a rate of 99.78%, 33 candidates were absent. In the Math exam, the whole province had 15,223 candidates taking the exam, reaching a rate of 99.78%, 34 candidates were absent. In the two combined exams of Natural Sciences and Social Sciences, the percentage of candidates taking the exam was over 99.7%. In the English exam, the whole province had 14,682 candidates taking the exam, reaching a rate of 99.8%, 30 candidates were absent.
