Pioneering action for a green environment

(QBĐT) - In the context of climate change and environmental pollution increasingly challenging the world, environmental protection has become an urgent and continuous task. With the spirit of initiative and volunteerism, in recent times, the Quang Binh Provincial Youth Union has implemented many practical and creative activities to contribute to raising awareness of environmental protection among union members, youth (YVTN) and the community. Good models and effective methods are spreading the spirit of green living, clean living, and living responsibly with nature in every residential area, school, business and locality in the province.

Spreading environmental awareness

Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union, Chairman of the Provincial Vietnam Youth Union Tran Khanh Cuong said: Recognizing the importance of environmental protection, the Provincial Youth Union Standing Committee always identifies this as one of the key tasks in the work of the Youth Union and the youth movement. Environmental protection activities are widely deployed, from urban to rural areas, from mountainous to coastal areas, aiming to change behavior and raise awareness of all classes of people. Every year, all levels of the Youth Union in the province simultaneously deploy many large-scale environmental protection campaigns and activities, attracting tens of thousands of young union members to participate.

In particular, 100% of district-level youth union units have organized and responded to Youth Month with many meaningful activities. Typical activities include planting trees on youth-managed roads, cleaning village roads, alleys, and streets; repairing and beautifying the grounds of martyr cemeteries, memorial steles, and relic sites... These activities not only improve the landscape but also educate the younger generation about their sense of responsibility to the community and history.

Youth union members join forces to clean up the marine environment.

Responding to the "Tree Planting Festival to forever remember Uncle Ho" in the spring of At Ty 2025, the Provincial Youth Union Standing Committee held a launching ceremony at the historical relic of Than Hoang Temple (Tan Thuy commune, Le Thuy), where My Trung Party Cell, the first Party cell in the Southern Quang Binh region, was established.

At the launching ceremony, delegates, Youth Union members, Veterans Association and students planted 2,000 trees together in the Than Hoang Temple grounds. Not only that, all levels of the Youth Union in the province also actively responded to the activities of "Tet tree planting to forever remember Uncle Ho" in 2025 with 32,873 trees planted on a total area of ​​nearly 20 hectares. This is a clear demonstration of the spirit of vanguard and volunteerism of young people in greening barren hills, contributing to climate regulation and environmental protection.

Environmental protection activities were effectively implemented through the simultaneous launching of "Volunteer Saturday" and "Green Sunday" by the Youth Union branches. The Youth Union members enthusiastically planted trees, collected garbage, and cleaned up the environment at the People's Committee headquarters, working offices, market areas, and traffic routes. In particular, the Provincial Youth Union Standing Committee organized two simultaneous "Green Sundays" at the provincial level, bringing impressive results: The whole province collected nearly 52 tons of garbage, eliminated 20 environmental pollution spots, and illegal garbage collection points...

Join hands to protect the marine environment

With a coastline of more than 116km, Quang Binh has great potential and advantages in terms of economy and marine tourism. However, along with the development, the marine environment is facing many serious challenges from waste, especially plastic waste and unsustainable exploitation activities. Deeply aware of this, the Provincial Youth Union Standing Committee has had specific activities to protect the marine environment. The campaigns "Let's clean the sea" and "Volunteer for the environment of our homeland's sea and islands" are regularly organized by the Provincial Youth Union, attracting thousands of young people to participate.

In the first 6 months of 2025, many practical projects have been promoted by the Youth Union at all levels in the province, such as: Lighting up rural roads, repairing and taking care of 420 flower beds, taking care of 44 martyrs' cemeteries, cleaning 64km of rural roads and 17km of coastal and riverside roads. In particular, 30 propaganda activities to build a civilized lifestyle, awareness of landscape preservation, and cultural behavior among youth and people in urban areas were also organized, attracting more than 1,200 Youth Union members from all over the province to participate.

Responding to Vietnam Sea and Islands Week and World Oceans Day, in addition to promoting propaganda and raising people's awareness of preserving the environment, the Provincial Youth Union has deployed youth volunteer teams to clean up the environment at cultural activities and tourist sites, focusing on coastal communes and wards, beaches, and coastal tourist areas with accumulated waste...

In addition to collecting garbage, the Provincial Youth Union also focuses on widely disseminating information about the harmful effects of plastic waste pollution on the marine ecosystem, encouraging people, especially the fishing community and those working in tourism, to change their habits and reduce the use of disposable plastic products. Many seminars and dialogues have been organized with the participation of environmental experts, helping young people and people better understand the importance of conserving marine biodiversity. The Provincial Youth Union also actively coordinates with functional units and local authorities to implement sustainable marine environmental protection projects.

“In the coming time, the Provincial Youth Union will continue to promote environmental protection activities in general and the marine environment in particular; focus on implementing projects to collect and treat marine waste more effectively; encourage circular economic models and reduce plastic waste in tourism and daily life. The ultimate goal is to build a community with high awareness of environmental protection, join hands to preserve a green, clean and beautiful living environment, contribute to the sustainable development of the locality, bring a fresh and sustainable living space for today's and future generations", added Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union, Chairman of the Vietnam Youth Union of the province Tran Khanh Cuong.
