According to calculations, the two English representatives, Chelsea and Manchester City, are expected to pocket up to 97 million pounds if they win the championship. Even the weakest teams, just by participating in the tournament in the US, will receive several million pounds. This is a huge amount of money for small clubs from continents outside Europe.
According to the organizers, European clubs are guaranteed at least £9.9m for participation, higher than other regions because they are assessed based on " sporting and commercial" factors. Even the European club with the highest brand value will receive £29m before even taking the field.
In the group stage, each win will bring £1.5m, while a draw will be rewarded with £800,000. "This income could be a game-changer for many smaller clubs," writes Sky Sports .
In the knockout stages, prize money continues to skyrocket. £5.8m for the round of 16, £10.1m for reaching the quarter-finals, and £16.2m for the semi-finals. The losing finalists will receive £23.2m, while the champions will receive £30m in direct prize money.
In total, the winning team at the FIFA Club World Cup could earn around £97m, a figure that is close to the prize money of the top club tournament, the UEFA Champions League.
The huge sum comes from financial backing from Saudi Arabia’s national oil giant Aramco, the PIF state investment fund, and an £800m rights deal with streaming platform DAZN, which holds the rights to all 63 matches of the tournament.
