Vietnamese-born midfielder joins Leverkusen

Ibrahim Maza has become Leverkusen's first signing of this summer transfer window.

Maza will play in the Bundesliga next season.

Bild reports that Hertha Berlin and Leverkusen have reached an agreement for the transfer of Maza. The midfielder will join Leverkusen for a fee of €12 million, with a salary of €1.5 million per season. Maza's contract with Leverkusen runs until 2030.

Besides Leverkusen, Stuttgart is also interested in Maza as they look for an attacking midfielder to replace Ezo Millot. However, Xabi Alonso's team seems more determined in this transfer.

This season, Maza has scored 7 goals and provided 3 assists in 32 matches for Hertha Berlin in the Bundesliga 2.

This midfielder of Vietnamese descent made his Bundesliga debut in May 2023, coming on in the 65th minute of a match against Bayern in the 2022/23 season. Later, with a goal against Wolfsburg at just 17 years, 6 months, and 3 days old, Maza became the youngest Hertha player to score in Germany's top league.

Maza has an Algerian father and a Vietnamese mother. Born and raised in Germany, he played for the country's youth teams. However, Maza ultimately chose the Algerian national team as his official destination for his international career.

The Bundesliga website rated Maza as having the potential and considered him a promising talent for the league's future.
