Instead of having to go to the counter, carrying a lot of cash, and facing potential risks, many customers, especially young people in the province, are now choosing the flexible option of online savings. Ms. Ha Nhu Quynh from Tam Thanh ward said: "I frequently transact on the BIDV SmartBanking application of the Vietnam Investment and Development Bank (BIDV) Lang Son Branch, so I researched and chose to deposit savings online. Compared to depositing at the counter, this method allows me to earn higher interest rates, and at maturity, the principal and interest are automatically transferred to my account. In addition, I can also monitor my balance, check interest rates, close accounts, and continue depositing right on my phone, making it easy to manage my finances."
Not only Ms. Quynh, but many customers in the province appreciate the convenience and safety of online savings accounts. Besides depositing large sums with fixed terms as stipulated by the bank, customers can divide their savings into smaller amounts and deposit them into their accounts at any time without any limit on the number of deposits.
Current online savings deposit interest rates at some banks (depending on term, deposit amount, and customer type): - For a 1-month term, savings interest rates range from 1.6% to 3.7% per year. - For a 3-month term, savings interest rates range from 1.9% to 4.1% per year. - For a 6-month term, savings interest rates range from 2.9% to 5.4% per year. - For a 12-month term, savings interest rates range from 4.7% to 5.7% per year. - For 24-month and 36-month terms, savings interest rates range from 4.7% to 5.9% per year. |
According to data from the State Bank of Vietnam, Region V, the province currently has 15 commercial banks, 12 second-level branches, and 58 transaction offices. In line with the government 's and the province's policy of promoting cashless payments and boosting the development of digital banking applications, banks have encouraged customers to participate in online savings deposits. Simultaneously, banks are continuously upgrading their technology to be simpler and more convenient for customers to use; applying advanced security technologies such as biometric authentication and data encryption according to standards... to ensure absolute security and safety for users.
Mr. Nguyen Hong Duc, Director of the Vietnam Agricultural and Rural Development Bank, Lang Son Branch (Agribank Lang Son), stated: To promote the development of digital banking applications and maximize convenience for customers, Agribank Lang Son Branch has continuously developed electronic banking services, including online savings services. Accordingly, online savings deposits have developed strongly in the last three years. With this method, users only need to perform simple operations through Agribank's electronic transaction channels, the most convenient being the Agribank Plus smartphone application. Users can transfer idle funds from their current account to their savings account at any time. Customers can close their savings accounts at any time when they need cash, even on holidays and weekends. To date, the branch's online savings deposit balance has reached approximately VND 1,008 billion, with 35,624 customers participating. Customers depositing online receive a higher interest rate than those depositing at the counter, ranging from 0.3% to 0.7% per year.
Along with Agribank Lang Son, in recent years, banks have been actively developing online savings products with diverse terms to suit many customers, such as: less than 1 month, 3-6 months, 6-9 months, 12-24 months, over 24 months… with a minimum deposit of 1 million VND. Many banks also offer online savings packages with attractive interest rates, 0.1-0.8% higher per year than savings at the counter, depending on the customer, deposit amount, term, and type of account.
Ms. Tran Thi Nga, Deputy Director of Vietcombank Lang Son Branch, said: "In recent times, to effectively implement the online savings program, Vietcombank Lang Son has simultaneously deployed communication solutions to customers such as disseminating information through digital platforms and providing visual guidance via videos and images. Currently, the branch is offering many preferential product packages for customers depositing money online, specifically: online term deposits, flexible principal withdrawal deposits, online accumulation deposits, and deposits for children. Customers participating in online savings deposits often receive preferential interest rates, approximately 0.1-0.2% higher per year than deposits made at the counter (depending on the time). In addition, customers can borrow against their online deposits directly through the VCB Digibank application." To date, the total balance of online savings deposits at Vietcombank Lang Son has reached approximately 150 billion VND, with more than 2,000 customers participating in savings deposits.
Compared to traditional savings methods, online savings accounts offer higher security and safety. After completing the transaction, the savings amount in the customer's banking app will be frozen, giving customers complete peace of mind. All online transactions are performed by the account holder themselves and cannot be forged like paper passbooks; personal information is encrypted, stored, and secured; transactions are verified through multiple steps and monitored by the system, so customers don't have to worry about losing or misplacing their savings passbook.
Although online savings deposits offer convenience and security, customers should also be mindful of choosing reputable banks; only conduct transactions on the official bank app, do not share OTP codes or passwords, and avoid accessing suspicious links and fake websites.
Amidst the ongoing digital transformation across all sectors, online savings are gradually establishing themselves as a modern, safe, and effective financial service. With the active support of commercial banks and the growing demand from the public, this form of savings not only contributes to changing traditional financial habits but also opens up a sustainable path for the banking system throughout the province in improving service quality, optimizing customer experience, and promoting the development of digital banking.
