American "Tiger" chose the 2024 Genesis Invitational to kick off his planned monthly tournament schedule on the PGA Tour and donned new attire after ending his 27-year partnership with Nike.
Woods will begin competing in the Genesis Invitational on the Riviera course in Los Angeles on February 15th. He calls this a new chapter in his career, at age 48 and significantly weaker, especially his legs, following a car accident in February 2021.
From this tournament onwards, Woods will no longer wear Nike apparel as the two parties announced the end of their partnership last month. It was a "blockbuster" contract, lasting 27 years and with Woods' total earnings estimated at $500 million.
Yesterday, Woods wore Sun Day Red (SDR) apparel while trying out his golf club on the Riviera. This is a product Woods introduced the day before, in collaboration with his partner TaylorMade, who is also his club sponsor.
Its logo features a leaping tiger, a nod to his name, while the name itself is inspired by the color red associated with Woods during the final round, usually on Sundays, on the PGA Tour for the past 27 years. The American golf superstar once recounted that his mother, Kultida, who is of Thai descent, said red was a powerful color for him.

"I used to wear red on the final day of events or important tournaments for my school team. Coincidentally, the place I went to was also in the same color scheme. That combination proved effective. Then, when I turned professional, I won a few trophies wearing red, so this tradition will never change," Woods revealed in 2013.
Starting in 2024, the US men's golf championship will return to its regular season, with a schedule spanning from January to mid-August. After the Genesis Invitational, Woods is likely to play in four more majors and two regular tournaments. After these seven tournaments, his schedule will depend on his FedEx Cup standings.
This week, the 15-time major champion will be playing with veteran caddie Lance Bennett, after parting ways with his trusted driving instructor Joe LaCava.
