According to the case file, Ms. Le Thi Lan (born in 1968), in Gia Lai province; permanent residence in Binh Chuong commune, Binh Son district (Quang Ngai), works in the timber trade. During her business, Ms. Lan became acquainted with Mr. NL (born in 1959), in Binh Trung commune, Binh Son district, who specializes in carpentry, wood purchasing and shaman work.

Around March 2020, Ms. Lan asked Mr. NL to come and worship the stakes to build a house. By October 2020, Ms. Lan had come to the house and called Mr. NL many times to inform that while trading wood in Ba To, she had bought a piece of agarwood weighing about 7kg from a resident in Ba To district. This piece of agarwood was purchased by a foreign enterprise for 1 billion USD.
This amount was transferred by the buyer to an international bank in Vietnam, but to disburse, Ms. Lan said that 3 billion VND was needed to pay taxes, pay compensation to bank employees and some related people... If Mr. NL supported the loan to complete the procedures to disburse the above amount, Ms. Lan promised to give Mr. NL 1,000 billion VND.
Thinking that Ms. Lan was telling the truth, Mr. NL borrowed from many people and credit institutions to give Ms. Lan a total of nearly 1.4 billion VND, only to later realize that he had been scammed.
On June 12, Quang Ngai Provincial Police prosecuted Ms. Le Thi Lan for "Fraudulent appropriation of property". Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Hung Cuong - Deputy Head of the Investigation Police Agency, Provincial Police said that those who are victims of this fraud should come to the Investigation Police Agency, Provincial Police to report, serving the investigation of the case.
