Wearing a light brown jacket and a baseball cap, Timothée Chalamet was filming A Complete Unknown - a film chronicling the early career of singer-songwriter Bob Dylan - in New York over the weekend, creating a wave of excitement and no shortage of jokes among fans.
Timothée Chalamet transforms into Bob Dylan
"He looks like he's going to Camp Rock ," one X user quipped, referring to the Disney movie about a musical summer camp.
"This is not Bob Dylan," wrote writer Marissa R. Moss. Others joked that Timothée Chalamet looked like Fievel, the mouse from the cartoon An American Tail.
Since its initial announcement in 2020, A Complete Unknown's production has been plagued by delays ranging from the pandemic to the Screen Actors Guild-AFTRA strike. However, the film still has the full support of Bob Dylan himself, who gave director James Mangold detailed notes on the script.
"I spent a wonderful few days with Bob Dylan, just talking to him alone. Dylan loves movies," Mangold said last year.
Mangold also added that he wasn't really making a Bob Dylan biopic, but instead focused more on a moment in the singer's life.
"It's a compilation of the time when he started his career, in the early 1960s in New York. He was a 17-year-old boy with $16 in his pocket, hitchhiking to New York to see Woody Guthrie in the hospital," Mangold revealed.

Timothée Chalamet will sing himself in the film and has hired vocal and dialect coaches to train his voice, similar to Austin Butler in the film Elvis .
Bob Dylan is notoriously elusive. The Nobel Prize-winning singer's life and work have been the subject of several films. Todd Haynes's 2007 film I'm Not There cast six different actors as Dylan. Martin Scorsese also made a musical film in 2019 called Rolling Thunder Revue , which chronicled Dylan's 1975 tour of the same name.
A Complete Unknown is based on a screenplay by James Mangold and Jay Cocks, starring Timothée Chalamet (Bob Dylan), Monica Barbaro (Joan Baez), Elle Fanning (Sylvie Russo), Edward Norton (Pete Seeger)… The film has not yet set a release date.
