Windows 10 users will no longer receive new features from the Microsoft 365 (Office) suite of applications from August 2026, according to an official announcement from Microsoft. This is the next step in the roadmap to end support for the Windows 10 operating system, which is expected to end completely in October 2025.
While security patches will continue to be provided for Microsoft 365 on Windows 10 until October 2028, the company confirmed that improvements and new features will stop. This means users will have to upgrade to Windows 11 if they want to continue to fully utilize the new features of Microsoft 365.
Specifically, from August 2026, Microsoft 365 Personal, Family, and Enterprise customers using the Current Channel will stop receiving feature updates. Monthly Enterprise Channel users will be affected from October 13, 2026, while the group using the Semi-Annual Enterprise Channel will no longer receive upgrades from January 12, 2027.
Previously, in early 2024, Microsoft adjusted the security update policy for Office on Windows 10. However, it was only at this point that the company officially confirmed its plan to cut features from 2026.
This timeline is tied to the planned end of support for Windows 10, which is scheduled to end on October 14, 2025. After that point, computers that have not upgraded to Windows 11 will no longer receive regular operating system updates. However, Office applications on Windows 10 will continue to receive security updates until October 10, 2028.
While Microsoft has been aggressively pushing users to move to Windows 11, there are still millions of devices running Windows 10 around the world. To encourage users to upgrade, the software giant is now offering an additional year of free security updates for devices that have Windows Backup enabled.
