Specifically, the global smartphone market saw a slight decline of 1%, falling to 294.6 million units shipped in the third quarter. This is still considered a positive sign, as the number of smartphones shipped increased by 8.3% compared to the second quarter.

In that context, Samsung continued to maintain its leading position in the industry, shipping 58.6 million devices and accounting for 20% of the market share.
In second place is Apple with a 17% market share. The American tech giant shipped over 50 million devices in the third quarter. This success is largely due to strong consumer demand for the iPhone 15 smartphone.
Third place went to Xiaomi with 41.5 million devices shipped, a 2% increase compared to the same period in 2022. Following them were Oppo (including OnePlus) with a 9% market share and Transsion Group (comprising Infinix, Tecno, and iTel) with a 9% market share.
"User demand for smartphones in emerging markets is driving sales during the holiday shopping season. Xiaomi and Transsion Group had a fairly strong quarter in the mid-range and budget segments in African and Middle Eastern markets," said Sanyam Chaurasia, an analyst at Canalys.
According to forecasts from several experts, the global smartphone market will experience slight growth in 2024.
"Smartphone manufacturers will end 2023 with more stable inventory levels. However, geopolitical uncertainties will impact business in many regions."
"In addition, smartphone upgrade cycles are becoming longer than before. This poses a significant challenge for manufacturers, as they must focus on improving production capacity and optimizing their product portfolios," Zhong noted.
