Trust in the new generation of honest, modest, dedicated cadres

(Baothanhhoa.vn) - The small house of veteran revolutionary Do Hung Lam in Tam Quy village (or Tam Quy), Tong Son commune is peaceful with a garden, a fish pond and warm conversation. Mr. Lam is 98 years old this year - an age when time has eroded his health and memory. However, the demeanor of a party member who has been in the Party for nearly 80 years has not been lost, from his neat clothes, his warm and friendly attitude when receiving guests to his clear and measured words.

Trust in the new generation of honest, modest, dedicated cadres

Mr. Do Hung Lam and his son talk with reporters.

A habit of a party member that has followed him for many years is reading newspapers every day. He reads Nhan Dan and Thanh Hoa newspapers very carefully, and according to him, "I cannot bear not reading a day". "Reading newspapers is the only way to get information. And from the information in the newspapers, I am very excited about the innovation and development of the country and the province. I believe that the new policies of our Party on the arrangement of administrative units at the provincial and commune levels, and the abolition of the district level, will create a new breakthrough in the socio-economic development of the country" - Mr. Lam said, each sentence slowly.

With Thanh Hoa , together with the whole nation, entering a new era at the time of touching the important milestone of the 95th anniversary of the founding of the Provincial Party Committee (July 29, 1930 - July 29, 2025), Mr. Do Hung Lam said that this is the time to strongly propagate, encourage, and multiply the spirit of patriotism and national pride. With the great achievements that have been achieved, every Thanh Hoa citizen has the right to be proud of the heroic historical and revolutionary traditions of their homeland, proud of the position of their province in the process of innovation and development, such as the province with the 4th highest growth rate of total product in the country and the 3rd highest in the group of 10 provinces and cities with the largest economic scale in the country (compared to the provinces and cities before the merger).

However, Mr. Lam said that this also requires cadres and party members, especially leaders of local Party committees and authorities, to determine their own mindset and responsibility in the new situation to continue promoting the achievements that have been achieved. “Cadres and party members must be truly honest and dedicated. To do so, we must not have bureaucratic attitudes and behaviors. There are local jobs that new cadres cannot grasp overnight, so we need to be serious, humble, listen to the people, be close to the people, and learn from the people what we do not know. Our people are very good, as long as cadres are open-minded and listen, they will learn a lot, and gain the people's trust, support, and consensus, then no matter how difficult the task is, it will be resolved" - Mr. Lam expressed.

The things that veteran revolutionary Do Hung Lam shared also stemmed from the revolutionary ethics of a party member that he practiced throughout his working years, and even when he retired and enjoyed time with his children and grandchildren.

“When my father was still the deputy director of the Nong Thuong Tin Cooperative in charge of construction, one afternoon, someone from Do My village brought a big fish as a gift. When I woke up from my lunch break and found out, he asked me to ride my bike to his house to return the fish,” Do Quang Chieu (born in 1970), his sixth child, happily told the story. “The integrity of a party member was inherited from the family tradition and we, the descendants, voluntarily and consciously practiced it. As for the work of the village and commune, big and small, my father and the whole family never hesitated, always actively taking the lead, just hoping to contribute a part of their efforts to the process of building their homeland.”

In the story that followed, Mr. Chieu carefully gave us a party membership card, so that we could both listen to the story and understand more about his father's life. Mr. Do Hung Lam was born into a family with a rich revolutionary tradition. In the 1940s, in a house in Tam Quy village, Nam Ban commune, Tong Son district, Ha Trung prefecture, his mother, Vu Thi Lich, and her family hid and sheltered many Party cadres such as To Huu, Le Tat Dac, Trinh Ngoc Diet, Ngo Duc, Nguyen Van Hue, etc. During this time, the boy Do Hung Lam was assigned to guard and assist the revolutionary leaders. He was also trusted by comrade To Huu to find a way to bring leaflets into the houses of the commune chiefs and deputy commune chiefs to call on them to join the Viet Minh, supporting the uprising to seize power. The flame of revolutionary ideals was kindled in the boy Do Hung Lam from then on.

In April 1944, while studying at the French-Vietnamese Primary School, Mr. Lam was admitted to the Viet Minh and worked as a liaison. In 1945, Mr. Lam directly participated in the uprising to seize power.

After the success of the August Revolution in 1945, Mr. Do Hung Lam joined the Executive Committee of the National Salvation Youth, teaching Popular Education. In 1946, he was appointed to the Office of the Thanh Hoa Provincial Administrative Committee, then returned to work at the Office of the Resistance Committee of Ha Trung District. In 1948, he was appointed to the Standing Committee of the National Salvation Youth Union of Tan Tien Commune (named after the August Revolution - NV),... At the same time, on June 2, 1948, at the Tan Tien Party Cell, Mr. Lam was admitted to the Party after his tireless efforts.

During his working career from 1948 until his official retirement in 1984 and from 1984 to 1989 working locally, holding many positions, from head of the cooperative control board to deputy director of the Nong Thuong Tin cooperative, the qualities and determination of a loyal party member in the revolutionary veteran Do Hung Lam were always respected and followed by colleagues, family, and the community.
