Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung has just issued a decision to announce the List of National Intangible Cultural Heritage.

Accordingly, Dien Bien province has two heritages, including "Rattan and bamboo weaving techniques of the Thai people in Dien Bien province" and "New rice celebration of the Si La people in Chung Chai commune, Muong Nhe district", included in the National Intangible Cultural Heritage List.

The Thai people’s bamboo and rattan weaving technique is the crystallization of folk knowledge, manual skills and unique aesthetic thinking. Seemingly simple items such as baskets, trays, winnowing baskets, etc., carry within them the spirit of labor and the unique cultural beauty of the Thai people.

The new rice celebration of the Si La people is a social and religious custom rich in humanity, reflecting the harmonious relationship between humans and nature, ancestors and the community. In Chung Chai commune - where the Si La community still maintains its traditional lifestyle, the festival is maintained as a precious "cultural breath".

The recognition of the two heritages is an important basis for Dien Bien to promote the development of experiential tourism models associated with indigenous culture, encourage creativity in conservation, and at the same time create sustainable livelihoods for ethnic minorities.

Currently, Dien Bien province has 22 intangible cultural heritages included in the National List of Intangible Cultural Heritages. Of these, 2 heritages have been recognized by UNESCO as representative intangible cultural heritages of humanity (Then Practice Heritage of the Tay, Nung, Thai people in Vietnam and Xoe Thai Art Heritage).
