Market price situation during the Lunar New Year of the Horse 2026

To ensure that the people can celebrate Tet (Lunar New Year) in a joyful, healthy, safe, and economical manner, the Prime Minister issued Directive No. 36/CT-TTg on December 31, 2025; the Ministry of Finance issued Directive No. 03/CT-BTC on December 31, 2025; and the People's Committee of Thai Nguyen province issued Directive No. 02/CT-UBND on January 15, 2026, on organizing the Tet Binh Ngo 2026 in a joyful, healthy, safe, and economical manner, and Directive No. 03/CT-UBND on January 21, 2026, on strengthening price management and control during the Tet Binh Ngo 2026.

In this regard, the Provincial People's Committee assigned the Department of Industry and Trade to regularly monitor the market situation closely; to urge and supervise key suppliers to develop plans to prepare the supply of essential goods and goods with high consumer demand, ensuring that the needs of the people are fully and promptly met, preventing shortages and disruptions in the supply chain that could lead to unreasonable price increases. The Department of Finance was assigned to lead and coordinate with other departments, agencies, and localities to closely monitor price and market developments, especially for essential consumer goods and services and items subject to price stabilization, and to promptly direct and take strict measures to handle violations of price laws within its authority.

To promptly assess and advise on management, operation, and price stabilization plans for the Lunar New Year of the Year of the Horse 2026, on January 29, 2026, a working group from the Price Management Department - Ministry of Finance, led by Deputy Director Pham Van Binh, visited Thai Nguyen province. Simultaneously, in coordination with the Department of Finance, the Department of Industry and Trade, and other relevant agencies and units in Thai Nguyen province, they conducted inspections and surveys on the supply of goods, price listing, and market prices at several supermarkets and retail outlets in the province.

Inspections revealed that local authorities have actively paid attention to and provided advice, issuing directives and regulations on pricing to ensure the full and timely implementation of directives from higher levels. Items for Tet (Lunar New Year) such as food, confectionery, beverages, and common consumer goods, fresh flowers, etc., are abundant and diverse, with ample supply to meet the needs of the people.

Despite the historic floods of 2025, the supply and demand situation and prices of basic essential goods remain stable, with the consumer price index in January 2026 increasing only slightly (0.11%) compared to December 2025.

Overall, market prices during the Lunar New Year of 2026 (Year of the Horse) are relatively stable, thanks to guaranteed supply, price stabilization, business support programs, and close monitoring by regulatory agencies. Consumers can shop for Tet with peace of mind, without worrying about excessive price fluctuations during the peak period.
