New province through the lens of young people

The merger of Quang Binh and Quang Tri provinces is a strategic decision, opening up opportunities to reposition a new development space, deeper in identity, and more open in potential. In that journey, young people are quietly contributing to creating a new provincial appearance with the aspirations of their generation.

Get in the game

At Quang Binh University, the scientific research atmosphere among students in recent years has become vibrant and rich in applications. One of the outstanding topics in the 2024-2025 school year is Emotion recognition using artificial intelligence in administrative reform, which won first prize at the university-wide student scientific research conference.

Dr. Dau Manh Hoan, Head of the Information Technology Department, shared: “The project aims to serve the masses in digital literacy and administrative reform, which are priorities in the new province. When Quang Tri province is newly formed, each cadre will take on more tasks and artificial intelligence tools will help them work more effectively.”

From a student’s perspective, Mai Vu Bao Long, the research team leader, also expressed: “We hope that the platforms we build can be piloted at community learning centers or public administrative service centers in border communes and disadvantaged communes, where the people are most accessible. That is the way for technology to truly reach the grassroots.”

With intelligence, creativity and passion, young people have quickly joined in the changes of society. They started building inspirational tiktok channels, with content introducing destinations, stories about people, culture of the land...

Although these beginnings are small, they are a positive sign that young people are not indifferent to big issues. On the contrary, they are proactively immersing themselves in reality, trying new things, and even taking risks to find their own way.

Vo Vinh Tu, a student at Vo Nguyen Giap High School for the Gifted (Dong Hoi Ward), confided: “I think the merger is a big turning point. So, in addition to the “kingdom of caves”, the new province will also have Khe Sanh, the Ancient Citadel, the two banks of Hien Luong - Ben Hai... I believe the new Quang Tri province will exploit both nature and history well, bringing sustainable tourism development.”

In the wave of change, many businesses have proactively sought suitable directions to both adapt and spread values. Amazing English Tour (AET) is a pioneer in the field of educational tourism combined with experiential English for students. With a journey spanning across three regions of the country and expanding internationally, AET has brought students to new lands, contributing to forming the spirit of global citizenship for the younger generation.

Sharing about future orientation, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hai Oanh, Director of AET said: “We see the merger as an opportunity to expand the market and strengthen connections. AET wishes to accompany the Department of Education and Training of the new Quang Tri province and schools to bring the educational tourism model closer to students throughout the province. It is both a development strategy and a way for us to contribute to nurturing a generation that loves their homeland through experience and language.”

Believe in the future

Nguyen Minh Dinh Thien, a 12th grade student at Dong Ha High School, is preparing to enter university in Ho Chi Minh City. Born and raised in Dong Ha, Thien's hometown is in Hoa Thuy commune, Le Thuy district (formerly Quang Binh). Thien shared: "When Quang Binh and Quang Tri are under the same roof, I feel like it is a complete connection between the two parts of my hometown. To me, the new province, in addition to being an administrative name, is also the common home of a new generation."

In Rum Ho village (Kim Ngan commune), Ms. Ho Thi Son, a Bru - Van Kieu ethnic woman, has renovated a wooden house into a homestay in the middle of the forest. Without much advertising or high-end amenities, Ms. Son's homestay is still sought out by many tourists because of its sincerity and uniqueness. Ms. Son shared: "I just hope that the province will support more infrastructure, open vocational training classes, and teach the language for children to know how to do tourism. So that young people can stay in the village and still make a living from tourism."

Accompanying the local people are young entrepreneurs like Mr. Tran Xuan Cuong, Director of Netin Travel Company. He and his colleagues have coordinated with Helvetas Organization to organize training, provide homestay consultation, and promote community tourism products through digital platforms. Recently, he has also actively connected tours from Phong Nha to Dong Chau - Khe Nuoc Trong - Huong Hoa, forming a community tourism route across the two provinces. "If the new province has a synchronous policy, we will reduce the decentralization procedures, and tourism linkages will be smoother. That is an opportunity for community tourism to no longer be a "model", but a real livelihood industry", the Director of Netin Travel hopes.

Recently, the Huong Hoa Tourism Association (Quang Tri) has coordinated with many international organizations to support local Pa Ko and Van Kieu youth groups to develop an eco-tourism model under the forest canopy, while also building an image for the local media team, so that young people in the border area can tell their stories in their own voices.

Mr. Tran Thai Thien, Chairman of Huong Hoa Tourism Association affirmed: “Khe Sanh has its own identity and a lot of potential. The merger opens up opportunities to connect localities from Bo Trach district (old) to Dakrong district (old), from Ta Puong waterfall to Ta Con airport. We want to turn the border area into a continuous tourist route both domestically and across Laos.”

The picture of the new province is gradually being painted with the vibrant colors of the young generation. They are silently demonstrating their generational responsibility through concrete actions, preserving culture, connecting technology, restoring identity and igniting a new vitality. The new province will not only be a place name on the administrative map, but a land where the youth speak up and join hands to build from the roots.
