With an unstable income like Ms. Pham Thi Lan, Lam Dien village, it is difficult to have money to buy voluntary health insurance for herself and her family. But since she joined the model "Women's savings groups, helping each other buy health insurance" built by the village Women's Union, that difficult task has become easy. Ms. Lan shared: I only work around a few fields of contracted rice and do housework, do not have money to buy health insurance, when my health is not good I do not dare to go to the hospital for examination. The new model is exactly what I wanted and can help other women in difficult circumstances, so I joined right from the day it was launched, every month I save 300,000 VND. From that savings, I was able to buy a health insurance card, go for regular medical check-ups, detect and treat diseases promptly, so my health is more stable.
Lam Dien is the village chosen by the Women's Union as a pilot model for the "Women's savings groups, helping each other buy health insurance". Initially, there were 15 members participating with a savings of 150,000 VND/person/month, now increased to 95 members, the savings also increased to 300,000 VND/person/month, giving priority to buying health insurance cards for the most disadvantaged women, those with poor health, when the card is due to be renewed. On average, 7-8 health insurance cards are purchased each month. Ms. Pham Thi Mien, Head of the Women's Union of Lam Dien village, said: After more than 3 years of construction, 100% of members participating in the model and their family members have purchased health insurance cards, helping them reduce financial worries when they are sick and have to go to the doctor and get treatment, making women more secure, confident and committed to the model.
The model of "Women's groups saving and helping each other buy health insurance" in Lam Dien village has been actively responded to by women, bringing practical results. Since then, the Women's Union of Ben Hoa village has also learned and followed suit. After more than 2 years of implementing the model, 53 members have participated in saving with an amount of 100,000 VND/person/month, each month 4-5 people have been able to buy health insurance cards. Ms. Dang Thi Yen, Ben Hoa village shared: Every time I go to the doctor, I realize the value of the health insurance card as a "talisman" that helps me reduce financial worries, get better health care, and find the model of "Women's groups saving and helping each other buy health insurance" very meaningful and humane. The model needs to be replicated so that more and more women in difficult circumstances can receive timely help to access health care services.
Ms. Pham Thi Hong, President of the Women's Union of Xuan Quang Dong Commune, said: Based on the reality, many women are still in difficult circumstances, many do not buy health insurance, when they get sick, they do not have money for treatment, do not have the conditions to go to the hospital. Therefore, the Women's Union of the commune has directed the Women's Union of Lam Dien village to pilot the model of "Women's groups saving and helping each other buy health insurance" to arouse and multiply the spirit of mutual love among members and women, helping members and their families to have health insurance cards, reducing the financial burden when going to see a doctor or get treatment, especially for serious illnesses that require long-term treatment. With the practical effectiveness of the pilot model, the number of people buying health insurance and benefiting from health insurance has increased significantly, the model has been replicated in many other villages. Up to now, the model has attracted over 240 members to participate. There are women who are given free health insurance cards but still participate in the model because they want to help women in difficult circumstances and to buy health insurance cards for their relatives. Through the model, the rate of members and women in the commune buying health insurance cards has increased from 89% to 95%, making the association and union with the highest rate of members buying health insurance cards in the commune.
In the coming time, the Commune Women's Union will direct its branches to maintain, expand, and attract more and more members and women, especially members and women in difficult circumstances, to participate in the model of "Women's groups and groups saving to help each other buy health insurance", contributing with the Party Committee and the government to implement universal health insurance, and doing a good job of social security.
