Supreme People's Court has more judges

Mr. Nguyen Hong Nam, senior judge, Deputy Chief Justice of the High People's Court in Hanoi , was approved by the National Assembly to be appointed as judge of the Supreme People's Court.

On the afternoon of June 24, with 95.75% of delegates in favor, the National Assembly passed a resolution approving the proposal of the Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court to appoint Mr. Nguyen Hong Nam.

Mr. Nguyen Hong Nam, 55 years old, from Thuong Tin district, Hanoi; is a doctor of law. He has been Deputy Chief Justice of the High People's Court in Hanoi since July 2021.

According to the Law on Organization of People's Courts 2014, the Council of Judges of the Supreme People's Court has no less than 13 and no more than 17 people.

The Council of Judges of the Supreme People's Court has the duty to review and re-examine judgments and decisions of the Court that have come into legal effect and are subject to protests in accordance with the provisions of procedural law; issue resolutions guiding the Courts to uniformly apply the law; and give opinions on draft laws and draft resolutions to be submitted to the National Assembly.

A meeting of the Council of Judges of the Supreme People's Court must have the participation of at least 2/3 of the total number of members; a decision of the Council of Judges of the Supreme People's Court must be approved by more than half of the total number of voting members.
