On May 17, on the occasion of the 135th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's birthday (May 19, 1890 - May 19, 2025), the Vietnamese Embassy in Hungary coordinated with the Zalaegerszeg city government to organize a flower offering ceremony at the President Ho Chi Minh Monument and co-organized a discussion on President Ho Chi Minh's thoughts on peace , independence, freedom, and happiness.
Attending the Flower Offering Ceremony and Dialogue were the Mayor and leaders of Zalaegerszeg city, representatives of Vietnamese associations, leaders of the Hungary-Vietnam Friendship Association and many Hungarian friends.

In a solemn atmosphere, Ambassador Bui Le Thai, Mayor of Zalaegerszeg City and representatives of associations respectfully laid flowers at the Ho Chi Minh Monument. The fresh flowers were placed solemnly, expressing infinite gratitude to the beloved leader of the nation, who devoted his whole life to the independence, freedom of the Fatherland and the happiness of the people.
The Ho Chi Minh Monument in Zalaegerszeg - the only outdoor full-body monument to him in Central Eastern Europe - was inaugurated on April 30, 1976, exactly one year after Vietnam was completely reunified. For nearly half a century, this place has become a symbol not only of the strong friendship between Vietnam and Hungary, but also a testament to the respect that the Hungarian people have for President Ho Chi Minh and the noble values he pursued.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ambassador Bui Le Thai expressed his gratitude for the attention and preservation of the Ho Chi Minh Monument by the city government and people over the past half century.
The Ambassador affirmed that this is not only a symbol of the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Hungary, but also a testament to the Hungarian people's respect for the ideological values that President Ho Chi Minh represents.
“President Ho Chi Minh was not only a genius leader, but also an outstanding cultural figure of the Vietnamese people, a symbol of peace, compassion and the desire for freedom. We are extremely grateful to the government and people of Zalaegerszeg City for preserving this meaningful work as part of the city’s cultural heritage,” Ambassador Bui Le Thai emotionally shared.

After the flower offering ceremony, Ambassador Bui Le Thai and Mr. Zoltán Balaicz, Mayor of Zalaegerszeg City, chaired a discussion on Ho Chi Minh's thoughts on peace, independence, freedom and happiness.
Speaking at the seminar, Ambassador Bui Le Thai emphasized: “More than a century ago, Ho Chi Minh left to find a way to save the country, not only for the independence of his people, but also for the common values of humanity: peace, independence, freedom, happiness. His immortal saying: "Nothing is more precious than independence and freedom", is not only the declaration of the Vietnamese people, but also the eternal aspiration of humanity. That declaration is a truth and today that thought still holds true, not only for Vietnam but for all peace-loving peoples in the world ".

Ambassador Bui Le Thai affirmed that President Ho Chi Minh's noble thoughts on peace, independence, freedom and happiness are not only meaningful to Vietnam but also inspire many other nations in the world, including Hungary - a country that has also experienced historical ups and downs to gain freedom and independence.

Mayor Zoltán Balaicz highly appreciated the initiative to organize the Dialogue and affirmed that the Dialogue helps the Hungarian people, especially the young generation, to understand more deeply about President Ho Chi Minh - the national liberation hero, the world's great thinker, and the outstanding cultural figure of the Vietnamese people.
Delegates attending the Seminar spoke and discussed extensively about the profound, contemporary and practical values of peace, independence, freedom and happiness in President Ho Chi Minh's thoughts; affirming that in the context of today's world still facing conflicts, inequality and instability, this thought of Ho Chi Minh still holds true. This thought of President Ho Chi Minh was ahead of its time, demonstrating the vision of a great man.

After the Seminar, there was a special art performance with songs praising President Ho Chi Minh and Hungarian songs blending in an atmosphere of solidarity and friendship. The songs about beloved Uncle Ho performed in both Vietnamese and Hungarian moved many audiences.
The Deputy Mayor in charge of culture of Zalaegerszeg city shared: “I don’t understand all the lyrics, but I feel the love and pride that the Vietnamese people have for President Ho Chi Minh. It is a sacred sentiment.”

Along with the art program, video clips and photo exhibition about 75 years of Vietnam-Hungary relations, the country and people of Vietnam also attracted the attention of many attendees.
The films and photos record important milestones in the history of relations between the two countries, from the years when Hungary helped train thousands of Vietnamese students, photos of Hungarian people taking to the streets to protest in support of Vietnam with the slogan "Vietnam, we are with you" to high-level visits and cooperation projects in many fields.
At the end of the meaningful anniversary, a Vietnam-Hungary culinary festival was held, where traditional Vietnamese dishes were introduced and enjoyed in a warm and intimate atmosphere.
The flower offering ceremony, the discussion and activities within the framework of the 135th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's birth in Zalaegerszeg city are not only an occasion to commemorate a great man, honor President Ho Chi Minh's ideology for peace, independence, freedom and happiness, but also an opportunity for the people of the two countries to share cultural and historical values and further strengthen the strong friendship between Vietnam and Hungary.
