On the occasion of the 79th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day on September 2nd, on the morning of August 15th, at the Party Central Headquarters, the Politburo and the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Party held a meeting with current and former leaders of the Party and State. General Secretary and President To Lam presided over the meeting.
Attending the conference were: former General Secretary Nong Duc Manh; former President Nguyen Minh Triet; Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh; former Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung; Chairman of the National Assembly Tran Thanh Man ; former Chairmen of the National Assembly: Nguyen Van An, Nguyen Sinh Hung, Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan; members and former members of the Politburo, members and former members of the Secretariat; and leaders and former leaders of Party, State, and Vietnam Fatherland Front agencies.
Delegates attending the conference observed a minute of silence in memory of the late General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.
At the Conference, on behalf of the Politburo and the Secretariat, Comrade Luong Cuong, Politburo member and Standing Secretary of the Secretariat, reported on the country's situation from the beginning of 2024 to the present, the key tasks for the remaining months of the year and the coming period. He emphasized that the Central Committee, the Politburo, and the Secretariat have united and consistently led and directed the resolute implementation of tasks, focusing on two major issues: carrying out unexpected and urgent tasks and resolving regular tasks according to the set plan.
Following the meticulous organization of the State Funeral for Comrade General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, the Politburo and the Central Committee decided on the policy to promptly consolidate the leadership positions of the Party and State, first and foremost the position of General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party, in order to ensure the continuous leadership role of the Party and State in building and developing the country, caring for the lives of the people, successfully achieving the goals of the 13th National Congress of the Party, and preparing for the Party congresses at all levels leading up to the 14th National Congress of the Party.
For routine tasks, the Politburo and the Secretariat have focused on directing the resolution of many issues arising from the plan, with the determination to achieve success. 3 strategic breakthrough, 6 key tasks and 12 The main solutions outlined by the 13th National Congress have created a solid foundation for the next phase. The Politburo and the Secretariat have also reviewed the progress of implementing tasks, assessed the results achieved, and clearly identified shortcomings and areas that have not met requirements, in order to focus leadership and guidance on effectively overcoming them in the coming period.
After hearing reports on various aspects of the country's situation, former Party and State leaders offered heartfelt and responsible contributions and expressed their hope that key Central leaders would pay attention to these issues in the process of leading, directing, and managing the country's development.
Speaking at the Conference, General Secretary and President To Lam acknowledged and thanked the sincere and heartfelt opinions, sharing and encouraging about the overall achievements as well as noting the shortcomings that need to be overcome. He affirmed that the achievements made in the past period are thanks to the great efforts of the entire Party, the entire people, the entire army and the entire political system, including the valuable, dedicated, intelligent and responsible contributions of the comrades. Leaders, including former high-ranking officials of the Party and State.
General Secretary and President To Lam reported, clarifying several points and emphasizing that never before has the country integrated so deeply and made such positive contributions to world politics, the global economy, and human civilization as it does today. However, we must not lower our guard against the four threats to the Party's leadership role, which generations of Party and State leaders have unanimously identified since 1994; and even acknowledge that these threats may become more complex as we comprehensively accelerate the reform process and proactively integrate into the international community. Meanwhile, the global and regional situation remains complex, with the risk of clashes and conflicts potentially occurring anywhere, requiring us to harmoniously manage foreign relations with major powers, minimizing pressure to choose sides and economic sanctions.
Domestically, the work of Party building and rectification continues to be implemented, with the goal of maintaining the Party's absolute leadership role and further purifying and strengthening its organization. The Politburo and the Secretariat are decisively directing this effort. 4 The work includes: Focusing leadership on ensuring breakthroughs, accelerating progress, and achieving the targets, goals, and tasks set forth in the Resolution of the 13th National Congress of the Party. Prioritizing the removal of institutional difficulties and obstacles, creating the most favorable conditions for all normal activities within the legal framework, contributing to national development and improving the lives of the people by organizations, individuals, businesses, and entrepreneurs both domestically and internationally. Focusing leadership on implementing social security policies, improving the material and spiritual lives of the people, and creating a positive atmosphere for people in their lives and production. Continuing to resolutely and persistently fight against corruption and negative phenomena with the established viewpoints, principles, tasks, and solutions, contributing to building and rectifying a clean and strong Party, and promoting sustainable economic development.
General Secretary and President To Lam proposed that, in order to repel threats, successfully implement the Resolution of the 13th National Congress of the Party, and make thorough preparations for the 16th National Congress, ushering the country into a new era, an era of national progress for Vietnam, the entire Party, people, and army must continuously strengthen unity and solidarity, work together wholeheartedly, seize the most opportunities and advantages, and maximize all resources, first and foremost endogenous resources, human resources. He urged former high-ranking officials of the Party and State, who once held important positions in central and local agencies, to continue contributing to our generation of leaders and to the glorious revolutionary cause of the Party, the people, and the nation, with their enthusiasm and responsibility, according to their individual circumstances.
