General Secretary and President To Lam; former General Secretary Nong Duc Manh; National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and many leaders and former leaders of the Party, State, leaders of Hanoi and other provinces and cities attended the ceremony.

Hanoi people will never forget the moment of taking over the capital.

Delivering a speech at the ceremony, General Secretary and President To Lam said that in the capital Hanoi, a thousand years of culture and heroism, the City for Peace, the heart of the whole country, we solemnly celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital.

In the sacred moment, the General Secretary and President expressed his boundless gratitude for the immense contributions of President Ho Chi Minh, of predecessors, and of millions of heroic martyrs who bravely fought and sacrificed for the country and for Hanoi.

At the same time, express gratitude and forever remember the valuable support and assistance that international friends and people around the world have given to Vietnam in general and Hanoi in particular.

In the glorious revolutionary career of the nation, Hanoi has always had a particularly important role and position, associated with brilliant milestones full of honor and pride.

"The first Communist Party cell was established in Hanoi on August 19, 1945. The August Revolution won complete victory in Hanoi, quickly spreading everywhere, encouraging and strongly motivating the people of the whole country to rise up and seize power...

Article 3 of the 1946 Constitution - the first constitution of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam - determined that "the capital is located in Hanoi" - said the General Secretary and President.

The people of Hanoi will never forget the historic moment on the morning of October 10, 1954, when the City Military Committee and military units divided into many large groups and launched a historic march into Hanoi.

After that, more than 400,000 people in the capital were excited and joyful in the forest of flags and flowers, full of enthusiasm, welcoming the victorious army, the revolutionary army, Uncle Ho's army back.

Not only during the resistance war against France, but also during the anti-American period, Hanoi was also very resilient with the spirit of Hanoi for the whole country.

According to the General Secretary and President, Hanoi, despite being a key area that was often fiercely attacked by the US imperialists, still clearly demonstrated its exemplary leading role, both fighting bravely and actively competing with the people of the North in labor production, building a large rear base, and devoting all its efforts to supporting the large frontline in the South with the spirit of "Not a pound of rice is missing, not a soldier is missing"...

Vietnam's bravery and intelligence continued to be clearly demonstrated with 12 days and nights of the People's Army, People's Police, militia, self-defense forces and people of Hanoi creating the resounding miracle of "Hanoi - Dien Bien Phu in the air", forcing the US imperialists to sign the Paris Agreement, ending the war and restoring peace in Vietnam.

From here, Hanoi has been praised and honored by compatriots nationwide and international friends as "Capital of conscience and human dignity".

Need to build Hanoi into a globally connected city

Recalling the political, economic, cultural, social and educational achievements of Hanoi during the peacetime and renovation period, General Secretary and President To Lam said that these achievements were all due to the talented leadership of the Party and the diligence, talent and creativity of the capital's people.

With the position and strength after 40 years of renovation, the requirement of bringing the country into a new era poses increasingly high tasks for Hanoi.

What must Hanoi do to become a socialist capital as President Ho Chi Minh wished, what must it do to be worthy of being a capital in the new era of development of the country?

To do so, Hanoi needs to focus on all solutions and strongly mobilize resources to build the capital Hanoi to truly be worthy of being the nerve center in all fields.

Become a city with the power to promote the development of the Red River Delta, the key economic region of the North and the whole country.

It is necessary to build Hanoi into a globally connected city, where people have a high standard of living and quality of life, a center of convergence, a crystallization of the country's culture and human civilization; with a level of development on par with capitals of countries around the world.

Building a team of highly qualified cadres with pure moral qualities, dynamism, creativity, daring to think, daring to do, daring to take responsibility, wholeheartedly serving the Fatherland and the people, always putting the common interests and the interests of the nation and people above all else.

Building Hanoians who are gallant, elegant, loyal, civilized, representing the culture, conscience and dignity of the Vietnamese socialist people.

Looking back on the past 70 years, the General Secretary and President expressed pride and appreciation for the achievements and feats that have been achieved.

At the same time, deeply understand the incomparable precious value of independence, freedom for the nation and happiness of the people, the value of peace and development.

"We are proud to have Thang Long - Hanoi, the capital of a thousand years of culture and heroism - where the noble values of the Vietnamese people converge, crystallize and shine. We are more confident in the cause of building the capital and the country; confident in the strength from the historical roots of the Vietnamese people to lead the country steadily towards socialism.

That is the will and aspiration of the entire Party, the entire people, the entire army, of the Party Committee, the people of the capital and the people of the whole country; it is the responsibility of today's generation towards our ancestors and future generations" - the General Secretary and President emphasized.

General Secretary and President To Lam believes that under the leadership of the Party and the strength of the entire people and army, the government and people of Hanoi will successfully implement President Ho Chi Minh's advice, soon build "our capital" into a model "socialist capital" in the world, contributing to bringing the country into a new era, an era of national growth.
