National economic census from January 5, 2026

Conduct economic census from January 5, 2026.

The purpose of the 2026 Economic Census nationwide is to collect information on production and business units to serve the assessment of the current situation and trends of the country's socio-economic development; as a basis for assessing the situation, developing plans and policies for socio-economic development of the Party and State.

The subjects of the investigation include : Corporations, General Companies, enterprises, cooperatives, cooperative unions, people's credit funds (abbreviated as enterprises); non-public service units; associations; production and business establishments directly under administrative agencies, public service units; individual production and business establishments in non-agricultural, forestry and fishery sectors; cooperatives; branches and representative offices of foreign enterprises and non- governmental organizations licensed to operate in Vietnam; religious and belief establishments.

The census will focus on collecting the following 5 main groups of information: (1) Identification information, production and business sectors, economic types; (2) Information on labor, assets, and capital sources of the surveyed unit; (3) Information on products, revenue, and production and business costs; (4) Level of application of modern technology, scientific research and innovation; application of information technology in production and business; digital economy, e-commerce; (5) In-depth specialized information.

The 2026 Economic Census information collection period will be carried out in two phases.

Phase 1 (from January 5, 2026 to March 31, 2026): Collect information from survey units that are individual non-agricultural, forestry and fishery production and business establishments; cooperatives; religious and belief establishments.

Phase 2 (from April 1, 2026 to August 31, 2026) : Collect information on enterprises; non-public service units; associations; production and business establishments under administrative agencies, public service units; branches and representative offices of foreign enterprises and non-governmental organizations licensed to operate in Vietnam.

Preliminary results are expected to be announced in January 2027 and final results in the third quarter of 2027.

The Prime Minister will establish a Steering Committee for the 2026 Economic Census at the Central level.

An important point of this census is to make maximum use of available administrative databases and thoroughly apply information technology throughout the entire process from data collection to processing.

To ensure unified implementation, the Prime Minister will establish a Steering Committee for the 2026 Economic Census at the central level. The Ministry of Finance is assigned to preside over and coordinate with ministries, branches and localities to develop detailed plans, organize implementation and build a census database for sharing.

Relevant ministries and branches such as the Ministry of National Defense, the Ministry of Public Security, and the Ministry of Home Affairs will be responsible for coordinating, providing relevant data, and organizing investigations within their scope of management. People's Committees at all levels in localities will establish provincial and commune-level Steering Committees and organize implementation in the area.

Organizations and individuals subject to statistical investigation are responsible for providing truthful, accurate, complete and timely information as requested by the investigator; they are not allowed to refuse or obstruct the provision of statistical investigation information.
