On the evening of September 10, US President Joe Biden simultaneously sent his thanks to Vietnam on both Facebook and X (Twitter).

Mr. Biden wrote: "Thank you Vietnam for the warm welcome. I know that this will be a historic trip."

Shortly after, Mr. Biden posted another post with the content: "It was great to talk with you, Mr. General Secretary. As I said, Vietnam and the United States have a great opportunity to become important partners. I know we can achieve our aspirations for a peaceful , secure, and prosperous future that our two countries share."

In the posts, the US president included photos of the official welcoming ceremony for him at the Presidential Palace chaired by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, and photos of him shaking hands with the General Secretary.

Earlier, at a joint press conference with the General Secretary, Mr. Biden shared: "Dear General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, thank you for the warm and sincere welcome you gave me in Vietnam at this historic moment."

For his part, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong hopes that through this important and meaningful visit, Mr. Biden and the delegation members will have more opportunities to directly experience the country of Vietnam, a country of innovation, dynamic development, with a long-standing historical culture and Vietnamese people rich in sentiment, hospitality, friendship and love for peace.

Also at this press conference, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and President Biden announced the upgrading of Vietnam-US bilateral relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong announced at the press conference: "For the benefit of the people of the two countries and the desire to strengthen cooperation for peace, cooperation and sustainable development in the new context, President Joe Biden and I, on behalf of the two countries, decided to adopt a Joint Statement elevating the Vietnam-US relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership for peace, cooperation and sustainable development."

According to former US Ambassador to Vietnam Ted Osius, President Biden shared during a meeting with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh in May 2022 on the occasion of the US-ASEAN Summit that he always had a lot of affection for Vietnam and the Vietnamese people. During his time as a senator, he and his late colleague John McCain campaigned to strengthen the US administration's relationship with Vietnam./.
