Tottenham 'explodes' with unprecedented expensive blockbuster

The North London club have agreed a deal to sign Xavi Simon from Leipzig for a record fee.

According to the Telegraph , Xavi Simons has arrived in England after all parties agreed on the terms of the contract. Tottenham will pay Leipzig 69 million euros in transfer fees, making the Dutch player the most expensive signing in history, surpassing the record held by Dominic Solanke (64.3 million euros).

Chelsea were previously thought to be Simons' preferred destination. However, the Blues are busy resolving the future of Christopher Nkunku and finalising the deal for Alejandro Garnacho from Manchester United. This delay has given Tottenham an opportunity to enter the race.

After failing to sign Eberechi Eze and Morgan Gibbs-White, Spurs are reluctant to let another quality No. 10 slip away. Coach Thomas Frank and chairman Daniel Levy see Simons as an important piece to improve their attack and strengthen their ambitions to compete for a top-four finish in the Premier League next season.

Last season, the player born in 2003 had an impressive performance. He contributed to 17 goals (10 goals, 7 assists) for Leipzig in the Bundesliga.

Including Xavi Simons, Tottenham's spending this summer has exceeded 200 million euros. This is the second most expensive transfer window in the history of the reigning Europa League champions, only after the summer of 2023/24 (272 million euros).
